One place that is a must see in Florence is The Duomo. Originally named the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo is the most massive and beautiful Renaissance type of Florentine Gothic architecture that towers over the city's rooftops like a red hen. The beautiful architecture on the outside and inside is breath taking. Once you arrive, you will not want to leave and you will want to take a second or even third trip back before you leave. Expect a long wait if you want to climb to the top if your trip is during the high season. There is also a dress code that is required which involves covered shoulders, no short shorts and hats must be removed upon entrance. The Duomo is a magnificent example of Renaissance thought with its beautiful details on the inside and out. It is simply breath taking, and a simple picture does not do it justice.
