To be fair to the Rainforest Cafe, I feel like I have to respond. I agree that the food is a little bit pricey, but good luck finding food outside of the food courts and buffets in Las Vegas that isn't a little bit pricey.
As for the rude staff, Americans tend to have a different sense of humor than our British friends. I would be extremely shocked if the waiter libby77 spoke of was serious when he stated that not tipping was a jailable offense. It was a joke. He would have known that, had you chosen to speak to his manager about what you perceived to be such a "great offense," he would have likely been fired, so the chances are very good that he was wasn't risking that by being serious. The waiters have always joked with us when we have visited the Vegas Rainforest Cafe - about everything from my dad's accent (Texan) to my cousin's purple hairdo. It's all in good fun. I mean, you went into a restaurant with mist and rain and mechanical monkeys hanging from the ceiling - you expected everything to be serious?
It's also pretty common to have a wait in popular restaurants in Vegas. The Rainforest Cafe is always packed, and a bit of a wait is to be expected. I can wait 30 minutes for my food in a local restaurant here in New Mexico.
I guess my review of The Rainforest Cafe would be this: Don't go if you're impatient, because it is a themed restaurant geared toward families and is usually crowded. I'm sure the staff also assumes most people enjoy sitting a bit longer there and enjoying the atmosphere. It is, after all, not a fast-food joint. Don't go if you don't have a sense of humor. Adults may find the atmosphere a tad cheesy, such as when the wait staff begins identifying and naming the mechanical animals for you, but keep in mind the restaurant is largely aimed at children, who find the whole thing fascinating. As for the food, I have found it to be quite tasty. I have yet to have an unsatisfactory experience at TRC, so give it a chance if you want some decent food and a fun, lighthearted experience. But beware of jokes.
