Hi Sam,
You will not be disappointed in the Awahanee. It is a fabulous place! Be sure and dine in their dining room and ask for the "honeymoon table". We were seated there on our last morning and the view is incredible as well as the food! I read where you are a photographer and kitty cat lover as I am. I have two spoiled kitties and I work for a raptor rehab center where I am the photographer. I've just started a web page of my photography at www.donnaeatonphoto.com Check it out and let me know what you think. If you are ever in my area, I would be happy to give you a behind the scenes tour at our facility and introduce you to some cool raptors! Smile Take care and safe travels to you! ~Donna

Hey, Samantha! If you get a free moment, (yeah, right LOL), could you check out my artwork...
http://www.geocities.com/photorealist2002/paulpage.html

It's only one "picture page" of some of my drawings. I'd love your honest opinion. THANKS for being there for us fans!! You've treated us all like friends.

Hi Samantha;
Thanks for responding to my previous posts.
I wouldn't take too seriously "excruciatingly painful to watch". Think of it, sombody watches a cable tv show they don't like and then goes on line to look up the channel and signs into a forum just to post their negative thoughts? Some people really do need to get a life.
As for me I came across your shows by accident about a year ago and I really don't watch much tv - mostly Turner Classic Movies and the talking-head news shows. But I do love old movies and as someone else in these forums mentioned Local Hero is one of my favorites.Actually if I had to compare you to past actresses I would say you were a cross between Diana Linn (that's reaching back) and Teri Garr. You certainly have watchability.Do you have an agent? And assuming you want to do more than just host travel shows (hey great gig - I'm not knocking it) he/she should be doing more to get you before a wider audience (no - not a weight watchers convention).
Anyway keep it up you have a lot of fans here.

Sincerely,
Rick

Well, I'm having a day.

First a bad night at work, then I got home to no heat AGAIN. Next my computer crashed, which is probably just as well. It's been running so slow that I was thinking of throwing it out the window anyway. So I figured that I'd just get some sleep and the dry, scratchiness in the back of my throat would go away. But instead it progressed to a full flegded headache and those sore, achy muscles. So I'm officially down for the count.

But, I don't have to work tonight, and the heat is on now, AND I got my picture today Smile

Thank You very much. You should be commended for taking such good care of you fans. That is pretty rare!

Now I'm going back to bed!

Sorry to hear about your eviction problems. I would just like to say that i enjoy your shows completely, especially GIRL MEETS HAWAII. I have been watching you for a long time now. I have been to Hawaii and found some cool places to go that i would otherwise not have known about if it werent for you. You are totally adorable and funny. To watch you in Hawaii is like watching a kid in a FAO Schwartz. You get so silly, you must really enjoy going there. I taped the whole 12 hour special the Travel Channel had on Hawaii on Feb 7 and laughed the whole time with you. I am really looking forward to seeing more of you there and I hope all the best for you. You truely are one of my favorite personalities on TV. I plan on moving to Hawaii soon and i have more places to visit and more things to see thanks to you. Especially trying the "awa" at Hale Noa. Good luck and can't wait to see more of you. . .

Samantha. First off I love the way you host your tv shows. You are friendly, funny & make a show inviting. How did you ever manage to land a job where you travel & stay in expensive hotels?? Oh what a life..LOL. Secondly & my main reason for writing, are you related in anyway to Page Davis, from Trading Spaces? You look like her, you talk like her, you even seem to have a personality like her. I almost thought you were her at first. The similarities are uncanny. Keep up the great shows. I really enjoy them. Thanks.

Hi, Ms. Brown.

You always seem surprised and delighted at the features of the hotel rooms that you enter. But your production crew tapes your entrances, so I assume that they get into the room before you. Do you get any advance notice about what's in the room, or does the crew set up in the room without telling you what's there?

By the way, since you've done improv comedy...next time you're in Los Angeles, come to the Second City Studio Theatre here. I perform there from time to time, and it'd be a kick to have you come and enjoy our shows.

All I want to know is, how did you get such a great job!!! Although you still have to deal with the routine, mundane elements of every day life, the opportunity to experience all these wonderful places must be great!

My fiance says, "SOUTH!" I say, "Anywhere BUT Alaska."

I think this year would be an exception for most people who live in the Greater Anchorage Area and surrounding towns. We are currently experiencing a very strange winter. We've only had snow from Dec 10 - February 1. We've had rain and melting (spring-like) conditions since. So, maybe the big snow sport people will be venturing to the snow.

I've had the good fortune of traveling many places - Europe, Washington D.C., Orlando, FL, to name a few. There are so many places we'd like to go to now, it's just that traveling can be SO expensive (especially FROM Alaska)!

We've been trying to figure out some romantic locations to go to in the US. Something fun (pool, hiking, biking, etc.) but also historical, geologic, and unique. We liked the idea of the Mission Inn in Riverside or the Big Island of Hawaii, but we also thought DisneyWorld (New Zealand would be really great too). . . Maybe you could do a show on Romantic Gettaways . . . Wink

Well, if you're ever in Alaska, we would be glad to tell you about the local favorites. Most Alaskan's are very proud of the state and are very exceptional hosts/hostesses. Alaska is a very unique place - you might have quite an adventure. I 've heard the inside passage is beautiful (cruise)!

I love the Travel Channel and especially love your shows. I would absolutely love to have the job you have. I wish that when I was younger I would've thought about traveling more, but I got married young and had kids and that takes card of that. But now I'm older, 33, and the kids are growing older and my job of 13 years is getting old, and I am seriously contemplating a huge change. How do I get a job like yours???? I wouldn't even have to be the person in front of the camera, I could just be your make up lady or your hairdresser or something. I'm just kidding, but seriously, do you work for the Travel Channel or another company that actually produces the shows? Are they interested in another "Samantha Brown"? You can't be everywhere, while you're in Mexico and the Carribean, I could be in Paris and Italy and Monaco. What do you think? Have a fabulous time on your next adventure, and be thinking of me, in beachless Denver, Colorado. Frown

First of all, I have to say that I am a HUGE fan of your show. I think that I have seen every episode. I hope that you enjoy your job as much as you seem to because you make it very fun for all of us watching.
I've been becoming irritated with the Travel Channel of late because of their changing format. It seems that almost every show has become about design, talent shows or food. Mad I watch the Travel Channel to watch "travel" shows. So, I want you to know that you have almost singlehandly kept me coming back to TC. Smile If you happen to talk to any executives over there at Discovery, please tell them to give us more travel shows!
In the meantime, keep up the great work. I'm so addicted to your show that even if its one I've seen a thousand times, I stop what I'm doing and watch it anyway. God Bless

Stargazer, I totally agree. If I want to watch a food show, I will watch the food network. I want to see travel shows on the Travel Channel. Somehow it seems this logic has escaped those in charge of programming.

Not that I don't love food (see my screen name for support of that contention) Smile. But when watching a travel show, I only want to see food as it affects the overall travel experience. I think Sam does a great job of this (as she does at everything on the show, in my opinion). I laughed out loud when she got excited over the corn dog vendor in one of the shows. I love corn dogs, too, Sam! Again, thanks for being a great host and caring enough about your fans to take the time to chat with us.

P.S. Sam, just a note that I posted my email above. I am not impatient, so there's no rush, but I just didn't want you to miss it. Thanks.

I just seen your Breakers Hotel! First off Sam,
I like the boat you were on in the beginning. My family has a boat like that. But its same size, different boat though. 42 Carver actually. We are boaters!

When you were in "the John" on The breakers episode, did you really have to use the john? Smile

Did you want to flash people at the pool like you said! I was laughing so hard when you said that!!!!!!!!

Sam, you are my hero and idle becuase I watch you EVERY DAY! P.S. I am 16 male!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sam,

Just a note(well ok, maybe you'll want to grab a hot cup of tea or a margarita.)
First, I want to thank you for the picture. I've never asked for pic from a celebrity before and felt really awkward, so I really appreciate your time and generosity.
Next, I really enjoyed watching episodes of "Girl Meets Hawaii" on Hawaiian Escapes marathon on the Travel Channel. A couple of episodes I hadn't seen before. Watching you dipping squid in chocolate immediately reminded me of the classic "I Love Lucy" episode with Lucy and Ethel in the chocolate factory. You captured that same humor. A Samantha classic!
Last, I often wonder when I'm watching "Great Hotels", if you get any responses from the hotel's owners concerning an increase business from having their hotels on the show?
Also, any comments they have made about the enteraining way in which you present their hotel on the show?
Again, thanks for the pic, and for the enterainment.
Sincerely,
Mark

Sam, You are awesome. I love the show and your wonderful personality. Is that what you are really like or is it a TV thing. I may have pulled a Fo Paw or how ever you spell it. I just sent off for an autograph from you, but I didn't realize that there is an actress with the same name. So I hope I sent it to you. How would one go about getting your autograph? I watch your show and it reminds me of my girlfriend in a way. Her job takes her to all ther amazing places and she gets to stay at pretty nice hotels. Azerbizan, Trinidad, Algeria, and many other similar locations she gets to visit with work. Anyways, I would love an autograph, just tell me what I need to do.

Thanks,
Andrew from Houston

Colorado59,

have you had any snow?

I've done looping but never for any of the Travel channel shows. My cats name, thank-you for asking is Fiona. I'd have lots of animals if I could but the traveling makes it tough. Fiona has a kitty sitter when I'm gone.

i am sorry to say that I am not. I think it was my upbringing. You see, Doctor Who always came on at 6:00pm before dinner. My mom would never let me snack for fear of ruining my appetite so of course I would turn to the tv to kill some time. Back then we had only 4 channels all of which were running the news at that time except of course for the local access station which played what else... ? DOCTOR WHO. I associate the show with my unhappiness at being hungry.

donnere,

I love the very first photo on your website "screecher" I can tell right away that not only do you have a sense of humor but that you deeply love your subjects. "retrospective" is another favorite. And may I ask you where you took most of your mountain photos. What filters do you generally like to work with?

artbypaul,

I really appreciate the fact that you are letting me get know you. I love this forum but at times I feel a bit egocentric so thank-you for letting me take the focus off of me. Your drawings are simply exquisite. Do you do portraits? say from a picture? I've seen some pen and ink drawings but none like the technique you use in "Carole" or "John" where their face is the only light source in the picture. just beautiful thanks again.

mrsharke,

I thought that the "excruciatingly painful" was mean spirited but to their defense they certainly have a right to express it. If I can take the good I have to take the bad. And I must say there are episodes that to this day I still cannot watch because, like the post says, I find it excruciatingly painful. I don't watch many old movies although I will say I am a ****er for Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre (sp?) I don't know who Diane Linn is (I'll find out) and Teri Garr? BLESS YOU. I love her! Yes I have an agent. and we're working on it.

Keldvm,

man, that's a pretty ****** day. NO Heat! Frown Do you live in an area that's in the deep freeze like the entire Northeast is experiencing? I laughed when you said you were going to throw your computer out the window. Here's something that no one would guess while watching my shows...ready?... I have a terrible temper. Mad My blow-ups are legendary. I'm always mad at myself never anyone else. So let's say my computer crashed and I didn't know why it wasn't working-I would do something like throw it accross the room against a wall so that in my strange mind I would then know EXACTLY why it wasn't working. I got those Yoga Cards to help me calm down but I've thrown those accross the room too. Roll Eyes I'm a work in progress.

razzmaniac,

You're moving to Hawaii? Lucky you. Although, I'm sure you know that it's pretty expensive to live there. Unfortunately the tourism trade inflates all the prices. Definately go to the Hale Noa bar and one of my favorite places to eat was a restuarant on Ewa Blvd. (Waikiki) called Spaghetti Hale. It was a tiny restuarant that sat only 20 and it served the best spaghetti and meatballs.

Don't I Though? When I first saw Trading Spaces I was like WOW! it's so strange when you yourself see a resemblance. People are always saying I look like other people-one time someone said "has anyone ever told you that you look like Sarah Michelle Gellar?" I told her "no, because I don't" Paige Davis has a great personality so thank-you for that comment.

Davidseidman,

By the time we actually shoot the room I've seen it a lot. It's never a surprise HOWEVER I absolutely am very aware of my first reactions to something when I do first encounter them MY first reactions are so important to me that I will never do the first tour of the hotel with their P.R. representative. They have their own language that I do not want to incorporate into the show.

Sam, we haven't had much at all down on the plains this winter. I think we've had only about 7 or so inches when we should be in the 20 inch range. The mountains are at 75% above last years totals but they say the mountains need about 80" more in the next two months to reach the 30 year average.

My cats names are Spanky & Franky. The codes are turned off so no posting pics but here are the urls for each cat. Unfortunatly you will have to join Sonys Image station if you want to see them.
By the way Happy Valentines Day!

marnjw,

I do have arguably the best job in the world and I wish that I could tell you exactly how to go about doing it yourself. For me I am an actress I auditioned and got the part. I will say however that being a mom makes it extremely difficult. for the past four years I have traveled eight months out of the year with only a week off after every three. I can't even give houseplants a good quality of life let alone children.

stargazer,

I hear ya, I hear ya. What frustrates me is that some cable networks seem to show more traveling than the travel channel does. My favorite is that international star search show that sometimes comes on after Great Hotels. What has that got to do with Traveling? But they, like all networks are trying to figure out what gets the ratings so that they can survive in severe competition.

sb4life,

I have to admit it, I really did have the urge to flash the pool. When I am in such a refined atmosphere I tend to think of those things. I would never act on it but I always think "wouldn't it be funny if...." I did not however have to use the toilet. I watch so many hosted shows and you never see the hosts be anything more than pleasant so I always like to shake things up a bit.

markin3d,

Do you know that I still have a package of that chocolate covered squid in my cabinet.--hey, it's Valentines Day mmmmmmmmm. Some of the hotels we do have experienced a huge benefit when the episodes air. The Inn at Montchanin Village received over three hundred calls the next day. It's great for the hotels that not many people would Know about. We get a lot of thank-yous from the hotels after they air. And some of them want to send a gift on to me for my work- I now have seven plush hotel bathrobes with my name embroidered on them.

Hello Samantha! First of all, Happy Valentine's Day!! Thank you so much for the thoughtful words regarding my pencil drawings. And to answer your question about doing portraits, I do. In fact most of my drawings are commissioned portraiture. The drawings that I put on that webpage are all friends and family who were kind enough to let me draw them! I do work from photos, as a live model would get far too restless sitting for the hours, days, and sometimes weeks it takes to complete each piece. If you have any photos with strong contrasts, (outdoors in sunlight are best) of yourself, I'd love to draw you. I would be honored if I knew that you actually owned one of my drawings. Call it a "fair trade" for the hours spent watching your show, letting my wife and I "tag along" on your adventures! THanks again for your time! I hope you and your boyfriend have something romantic planned for today!

Sam: Its nice to see someone other than myself that stays up late(my wife hates it).Our cat Misty wanted to correct you on the statement that you own Fiona. She states for the record that we are cat SERVANTS not owners and we are to answer to their beck and call(and occasional Hairball). We have a organization here called Feline Rescue that takes in cats to prevent them from being put to sleep is that anything like to org. that you give time to? They screen new owner's(servants, lol) before placing a cat in the home its a very good organization. Sorry to here about your landlord problems, do you need a call placed to the Carlucci Brothers? they can make an offer your landlord could not refuse.Anyway hope its resolved to the tenants benefit.
You do indeed have a job to die for, where else could you get paid to go stay at plush resorts in exotic local's and look sooo good doing it! Well I have to go and get my guys drag out the snow chains for the fire apparatus here at the station I'm the officer at,its supposed to snow later today here in this end of Va. Have a great Valentines Day Sam and WE'll be watching the Travel channel later (noon and 5pm).

Hi Sam
You probably never heard of Diana Linn because her name is actually spelled Diana Lynn - sorry about that. Her best known films were Miracle of Morgans Creek, My Friend Irma and it's sequel (Martin and Lewis films) and the famous - some say infamous Bedtime For Bonzo starring Ronald Reagan. She had a very perky sometimes wise cracking persona - sound familiar?
Also meant to ask do you really listen to Barry Manilow? Come on you have to listen to something weightier than that!

Samantha,

I hope you have a great Valentines day! I'm sorry the forum will be down for a while, but I will look forward to your return. I wanted to let you know that it really is great of you to have this forum for your fans. It really makes you seem even sweeter and more down to earth than than you appear on your show (and I didn't think that was possible)! It's cool to watch you on television and tell one of my buddies that I was just chatting with you. I'm sure I speak for the majority of people who visit this forum that we really appreciate you. Would you please make my Valentines and send me one of your autographed photos?
