What about the Mt. Washington Resort in Bretton Woods? And a ride up the Cog Railroad. It was so cold when I was there that my eyelashes actually froze at the top of the mountain. New Hampshire was stunning by the way. Franconia Notch was amazing. I probably could have stayed there a month.

Would also agree that you should visit the Grand Coronado...

Can't wait to see the rescued dalmations...their stories both make you mad and warm your heart. I rescued a little dog a year ago (hard not to take all of them home) and she is wonderful. People tell me that she always looks so happy and like she is having fun...the best compliment I could ask for.

Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond and letting us all into your life a little bit!!

Samantha (and I'll step aside after this post to let real hotel users occupy the forum properly), although I'm no great world traveller, I have run over to England very cheaply each summer for a week or two for years now, and I can think of, at most, a handful of even mildly unpleasant experiences with people I've had there, and many, many examples of kindnesses. I'm sure anyway that you'd entrance the most icy of monacled Englishmen(not that many such people really exist). But you're surely right about their reliance upon American tourists. I read somewhere that over a third of the West End theatres' attendance was comprised of Americans annually (sometimes to my annoyance... until I remember I'm one of them - oops). The British Travel Board, or whatever, would likely greatly welcome your series (even help subsidize???). And if you do go, in summer at least, I really do recommend an evening in the restored Globe Theatre. I'd feared it would be cheesy touristy stuff, but Mark Rylance's company does wonderful work. Just go as a groundling (under ten bucks, but better get tix some days in advance), get at the entrance gate 45 min. or so early, and race the initial crowd (they're all cheerful American college students and some are surprisingly nimble) to stand right below the stage. You can prop your elbows on it - I could have untied the shoes of the actors this past time (Twelfth Night, too). The atmosphere is electric, almost like a rock concert, with undeniable interaction between audience and players, and if it's one of the better plays I have no doubt you'll almost tingle during the famous soliloquies, etc. A wonderful, memorable experience (as long as it's dry) and the crowd groans appropriately at Will's bad puns, too (including me - the earlier comment was of course as tongue in cheek as your nice retorts). It's been a delight e-mailing with you this week - and I'm sure the other readers agree - and no need for a further kind response. But what a brush with Celebrity! After all, you're on network tv (a network, anyway) more often than Jennifer Anniston, right? Best wishes again, Samantha (you'll discover a snowstorm has flown up the east coast overnight) and I hope you continue to have a successful, but happily eccentric, career.

Sam - I love your shows! I started with Great Hotels, but have tried to catch as many Gr Vac Homes & Girl Meets... as I can. I like the personal touches and comments you add - the kind of things we *all* do when we go to a hotel or on vacation!

If you're down in the South Florida area, check out this new hotel - Westin Diplomat Resort. Their website is diplomatresort.com and it's a fabulous place - perfect for your show!

I hope you had a nice holiday and got to get some R&R during your time off! All the best!

Hi Sam! About how long are you at the hotel preparing before you start filming? It seems like you always have so much information, that I was wondering if you are there for at least a week collecting information.
Also it surprises me to know that you usually record 5 takes to get one scene...because you always seem so fresh in each scene. you do a great job!

Samantha:

I love your show! You're the perfect person to host it.

You did a "GREAT HOTELS" show on January 16, 2003. You were in a bathroom that had a shower that opened onto the Jacuzzi. They were all one unit. What hotel was that? I've looked all over the internet and I can't find that Jacuzzi and it's driving me nuts. I would like one like that for my bathroom. I hope you respond.

Love Ya....

Hey again, Samantha! I'll just send you my info. this way, so you won't have to go to the trouble of e-mailing me...if you have time to send an autographed pic that would be great!

Also, in discussing places to visit in NC...I would also like to suggest the Pinehurst Hotel, in Pinehurst, NC. My dad took me and each of my sisters there for dinner when we turned 13 (quite a while back!) because it's very elegant (and expensive). They're also VERY friendly there...I'll never forget the moment when the grand pianist played the first few notes of "Happy Birthday"...I was so overwhelmed, w/ all these rich couples and parties around the room all staring at me! It was very exciting. If you aren't familiar w/ Pinehurst, it's the golf capital of the southeast and a beautiful place, I might add, with lots of well-to-do people and their beautiful southern homes. I'm sure I'll be back w/ more suggestions later though. Thanks for listening!

Here's my info. for the autographed picture request:
Michelle G.
PO Box 3021

Thanks so much, Samantha! You're the best! Ttyl.

Hi again Samantha!

A couple of good wineries I've been drinking lately are Erath Vineyards(Dundee,OR, 800-539-9463
www.erath.com) They make an incredible number of Pinots, most of which I've had, and they were all good, and it's hard one over the other(the more expensive ones were a little better, I recall-always happens that way, eh?), and also Willamette Vineyards is pretty good. There's tons of good vineyards up and down the Willamette Valley, though, I'm working on getting to all of them(there's so many!). Duck Pond and Salishan Vinyards Pinot's were good, too, for cheaper Pinot's($15 range).

I also have a question about your interest in acting. By proffession, I run a small independent film studio called Arthouse Productions in the Portland area, and we're quickly growing, and increasing productions, and I will be personally producing and/or directing 2-3 features, and several short subjects in the next 12-16 months, and just wondered if you're interests including acting in films. You have a wonderful comic talent, and it would be a shame not to see it used in other creative ways, too. Let me know if you're interested, and I'd love to send you current scripts we're developing, as well as some of our short films that we've produced(some of which have screened at festivals in Arizona, Oregon, and the DGA in LA) in the past. Just let me know where I can send them to.

Keep up the good work on the show, as busy as I've been, and being an avid traveller, I've had to stick to amrchair travelling lately. If you go to the National Parks, I suggest the El Tovar at the Grand Canyon, Jenny Lake Lodge in Grand Teton(5-star dining), and Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier. I had the priveledge of working at all those hotels several years ago, while I was doing a lot of my travels, and they're all beautiful, and offer excellent dining.

Happy travels,

Bill Kelley

arthousebill,

I am very interested in film and am able to work on a lot of fun projects with my friends while i am home in NYC. We haven't won at Sundance yet, nor have been invited but it's something to strive for.

Those are good selections on the Pinot's. Have you ever tried Pinot Meurnier by Eyrie (sp) vineyards? I think you hit the nail on the head with the more expensive more better theory. I have found it hard to find a Pinot under 15 dollars that is any good Unfortunately you have to go higher and I'm a 10 dollar a bottle kind a girl.

Hey Sam

Glad you finally had some time off to enjoy yourself and didn't break anything in the process. You must be overwhelmed by all these requests for autographs and invitations to dinner!

Given that, I was wondering if there was any chance we could set up a "Meet & Greet Samantha Brown" appreciation luncheon or dinner. Perhaps if you are planning to attend Pinkerton's production or have something in the works in NYC that your fans could come and support. Nothing major, just a 10 to 20 person get-together where all participants could bring you a pricer bottle of Pinot Noir and get a chance to see your winning smile in person.

If you're at all interested, I'd be happy to set it up within your parameters. Either way, I think it's great that you're so accessible and I really appreciate this opportunity to learn more about you. Big Grin

Firstly, I would just like to say that I love the show so much- AND- if you ever decide you need a fill-in, I am your gal!
That said, I am looking forward to the new season, although I only get to watch it when I am home (college cable is terrible). From this past season, which hotel is your absolute FAVORITE? If given the chance, I would love to stay at The Library Hotel or the Hotel Monaco. Thanks a bunch!

I'm looking forward to the new season of "Great Hotels". I really enjoy your light-hearted presentation. When I went the Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World, I felt that I had already been there because of how well you presented the lobby, rooms, and restaurants.

My daughter would like to know what brand of shoes that you frequently wear on your show. They are the black slides. You wore them while you were at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. The shoes must be very comfortable because you wear them often. Thank you.

Sorry for another post on the same subject, but my overworked brain just came up with an idea I should have included earlier -- perhaps we could have a small-scale, informal fundraiser for Kittykind?

I'll bet that there are several admirers in the greater NYC area willing to shell out a few bucks for a good cause and to meet you. Maybe a $20 or $30 "ticket" could have half the proceeds go to Kittykind and the other half for a meal at your favorite pizza joint.

Just a thought . . .

The excitement you show with every little surprise you find in the rooms are such a treat ! My mother and daughter are just as thrilled whenever we stay in a hotel that adds a little touch here and there. We love exploring the rooms and grounds just like you do ! My husband laughs at US in amusement, but when we watch your show it seems he shares YOUR enthusiasms ! Go figure ! (tee-hee-hee) PS a GREAT HOTEL to explore is the new Gaylord in Orlando Fl.

Hi, us again. My wife and I are going to las vegas for our 25th wedding anniversary later this year, we can't seem to decide where we want to stay. We were wondering if you might have a few suggestions. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, any plans to come to Milwaukee, wisconsin? If so come during summerfest its a huge music festival. Anyway, we're looking forward to your prime time special next week. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

trek,

For your 25th really only Bellagio or The Venetian will do. Every room at the Venetian is a suite with a living room area that you walk down into. Gorgeous bathrooms too. Both have high end restuarants to do some serious celebrating. For a little excitement try Indoor sky diving. If you go to the last photo gallery you'll see what the sky diving was like. Happy Anniversary Big Grin

That's funny, Sam. I wouldn't confuse you with J. Lo -- you have too much talent, but I have noticed that you remind me of Ellen Degeneres -- your quick wit, genuineness, mannerisms, and ability to find something humorous in the normal or the obvious. A rare gift!

Those slides are like orthopedics! I had used them so much that the label had worn off so I don't remember who made them. Your daughter may be sad or happy to know that those shoes have been officially retired.

jhenrysmom,

I'll get press packets anywhere from a week to a day ahead. They usually don't tell me much and are boring so I rely a lot on my first impressions of the hotel when I actually arrive. I probably have two hours to prepare most of what I say but I then leave the rest to improv.

No problem -- glad to see that you are an aficionado of Ellen and her comedy. Ever seen her live? She's great!

I think you underestimate your popularity. Between me, my friends, and the people who have already invited you to dinner in NYC, you've got about 8 people times $20 a piece = not exactly gala benefit dough, but a good start! I'm convinced we could get at least 20 people and you wouldn't want much more than that -- it could be overwhelming!

Anyway, I understand what you're saying and will patiently wait until you are ready to meet your adoring public. Just remember to sign me up as fan club president (I can co-chair with your mom!)

Until then, I'll send a personal donation to Kittykind -- I have a rescued mixed-breed dog and understand the importance of giving "unwanted" animals a second chance. She's a blessing.

Can't wait for the new shows!

Hello once again, Miss Samantha. Smile

Thank you so much for responding to my previous post... and quickly, too! It does one good to see a celebrity (yes, I mean you!) checking in to see what her fans are saying and asking and such.

Please, if at all possible, might I be one of the vastly lucky ones to receive an autographed photo? Pretty please? My address is:

Thank you in advance, and have a great weekend!

Hello, I was hoping that you would be able to answer a simple query: I didnt catch the name of a hotel/spa featured last week which seemed to specialise in chocolate- ie chocolate massage, chocolate bath... it was marketed as a bit of a chocolate lovers dream..

i was on the plane watching the show- Thurs. 9th, January, at around 6:30pm. If it helps, the following show was on the 10 most expensive hotels.

Otherwise, I have recently become a Tchannel watcher, and convert- I found myself tracking down one of the 10 best toilets featured in West Palm Beach last week....
I must confess that I was generally unimpressed by the channels selection of 10 best pools- which seemed to be none other than the 10 trendiest, but what beautiful showcases on the worlds great hotels! Have you featured the ice hotels in Norway?

I was planning to send you a request through the Travel Channel, but my well-honed procrastination skills would likely get the better of me and you'd be on season 10 before I actually sent it.

So, instead, I'll start working on a thank-you note in anticipation and appreciation of you sending an autographed picture to:

Hi Sam, thanks for answering my questions! Smile sorry if I took along time to reply, I found out there is a page 2 botton! and that's where your reply was. Your jobs sound like fun. I'm looking for another job that is fun, and better pay too! I'm tired of minimum wage! Do you think that I can buy one of Keali'i's cds here near the east coast some where? and what would it most likley be titled, too? I just saw your show with The Breakers hotel on Palm Beach, I really liked that hotel. does it have a web site? I would just love an autographed photo also, it would make me estatic!! I would frame it and everything, but my parents will not let me post our address on the internet! that really bursts my bubble!Frown Do you play any instruments? I played the piano for 8 years now, and I quit the saxophone about 5 years ago. I've never played cranium before, I'll have to try it some time. Making soups sounds interesting, I am not allowed to used the stove without supervison, but I am allowed to use the microwave Smile I don't cook that often anyway. I just read about the nose jobs and the forehead enlargement, is all of this true?! or are you just joking, I think you look just great the way you already are. well thanks for your time and write back soon. Hi Sam,
I really enjoy the show. I get home just in time to watch your afternoon show. I was a little upset when they put you on only for a half hour. (I am not impressed with celebrities homes). I like to experience it, not watch it. My husband and I travel with a RV, but once in a while we like to stay at a hotel and some of the hotels you've shown us had made a hit with me. The old saying, "If momma ain't happy, no one is happy". Well, my husband indulges me and we stay at a nice hotel. (Especially, Animal KIngdom at Disney World, loved it!!) Thanks for giving me some great ideas. Keep up the liveliness.

Hey Sam,

It's Tristen Hubbard! I wanted to say hi and congratulations on your great success! I have to admit, it's a little strange to get on here and read all the posts, when I remember you when you were 8! Smile

I'm sorry you won't be doing Great Vacation Homes anymore! I started watching GVH about 4 years ago, while living in Colorado, and I just loved the show and seeing the way so many people had realized their dreams in their beautiful homes.

Great hotels is wonderful, though - I've traveled quite a lot since high school and I've stayed in many of the hotels you've visited. My favorite - the Chateau Marmont in LA. My friend and I loved it there so much, we almost never left our room! Any chance you'll do some Boston hotels in the near future - and do you ever do B&B's?

Sam, I wish you the best of luck. I'm a faithful viewer and I've got all my friends and family watching. If you're ever in the Boston area, please get in touch. It would lovely to catch up and hear about all your traveling experiences!!

I'm so happy you contacted me in this forum. I saw your first post where you defended me and I was like "my gosh it's Tristen Hubbard!" I wanted you to write in again so I could say hello. My Gosh it's been awhile. I still remember chorus in elementary school where you sang "somewhere over the rainbow" and I sang "I won't grow up" from Peter Pan. It's great to hear from an old friend and one that enjoys my shows to boot. Please, Please tell your parents I say hello. I think the last time I saw your mom was when you had me, Alison Wiza, and someone else? over to learn Starmaker to perform in honor of Mr. Quigley. Unfortunately, the pizza came and we never got back to learning that song. Next time I come home I will absolutely look you up. Your in Boston you say? Take care and thanks again for getting in touch with me.

Kibbyschaefer,

Well that hotel/spa was none other that The Hotel Hershey. When you go you have to have their chocolate soup at the upscale restuarant. Eek I am so glad you like the hotels we cover, I've been extremely happy with where Travel channel decides to send me. We have not done the Ice Hotel. so far we have only traveled domestically. possibly next year..

I certainly understand your parents caution. Just send a note to Travel Channel 7700 Wisconsin Avenue Bethesda MD zip? Publicity Department. there's nothing wrong with minimum wage at your age. don't be so hard on yourself. Believe me there's plenty of time to be disappointed in how much money you make, no need to start this soon. I absolutely positively did not have those surgeries, I was just kidding. I have all of Keali'i's CD's and I do have a favorite but it's at my home (which I'm away from right now) I'll email you the info Monday night. Hi Sam...Just another question about KittyKind...Did you see a lot of influx after 9/11? I took a week and volunteered with the aspca and the American Veterinary Medical Association Disaster Relief to help go into apartments in the area and rescue abandoned, newly orphaned and injured cats and dogs. It was good to be able to help, but I'll probably not volunteer from such duty again. I heard a few stories of adoption and pets finding their owners...

thats all - nothing show related this time.
