The Crew and I have just finished shooting season two of Great Hotels. After traveling for three weeks out of the month for the last eight months I'm definately looking forward to some time off. I can't wait to have plants that won't die, a cat that recognizes me and to actually be able to say yes to friends invitations.
I'm heading to Park City Utah for my annual ski trip (sans film crew). I'm a bit apprehensive because I just have this overwhelming feeling that I am going to break my leg. Isn't that strange? I've been skiing for twenty years and I just know I'm going to end this year in traction. I think Paula Zahn from CNN breaking her leg skiing has got me overly paranoid but I've signed up for snowshoeing anyway. If you need any recommendations for winter getaways let me know. It maybe too late to book anything this year but you could always get a head start on Christmas 2003. I look forward to hearing from everyone.

Dear Sam,
Because of the tremendous success you are having with "Great Hotels", are you planning on scheduling any public appearances for your army of admiring fans?
Enthusiastically Yours,

Hello Sam, I have just finished 11 months of furlough, so I've had ample time to appreciate your show. I love to travel and love to take the virtual tour you offer each week. As much as I appreciate the show content, I think it is your wonderful personality, that you share with us, is what makes you such a success. Are you going to do any filming in New England any time soon? I think New England has such variety and charm (not to mention all the history). I agree with you regarding skiing! I excel in falling! Keep up the good work and you will have that dream house on the ocean!

My wife Dayna and I are big fans of your Travel Channel shows. She calls you her Gal Pal.
After sifting through the many other Samantha Brown imposters on the internet, I was lucky enough to stumble across your site and thought it would be nice to say hello.
For some reason my wife and I thought you were from New Hampshire but I read in a previous post that you were from Texas. Did you live in NH at some time in your life?
Could you do me a favor and send my wife Dayna a Happy Birthday wish? She will be 31 on December 19th and I think she would be thrilled to get a Happy Birthday from you. Her address us djackson@webryders.net.
Thanks for making the Travel Channel fun to watch. Your personality and enthusiasm are always fun to wake up to on Sunday Morning.
Thanks in advance,
Chris Jackson

Sam,
I am a huge fan of your show, I also have a lot in common. I heard that you went to Syracuse, where I am currently studying. I also grew up in Maine, where I read you would like to build your dream house...excellent choice. I was wondering how you got involved with the Travel Channel and how I could perhaps get a job with them. I would be greatly indebted to you if you would e-mail me, my address is zach_stock@yahoo.com it would be great if you could give me some advice. Thanks

Samantha, I know that you get this question a lot, but how did you end up with such a dream job? I read that you have a background in performing arts and that you were spotted on a commercial. I, too, have a degree in Theater (also in Creative Writing), have traveled extensively, and have much experience on the stage, but no television or film yet. (I'm also from Maine! Are you my twin?) I guess my real question is, I just moved to North Carolina, and am wondering where to start locally. I'm unwilling to make the move to New York City or LA yet, though I would if I had a job there, and I am willing to spend long periods of time away from home. Is it possible to pursue my dream in Appalachia? I don't need great fame or fortune, I just want to eck out a living doing something that I enjoy. By the way, I love your shows, and I think it's wonderful that you come on the message boards answer questions from your fans. Thanks in advance.

I hope you don't mind me offering a few ideas, nbedell. NC isn't actually that bad of a place to be with Gemstone Entertainment(I think that's their name) in Wilmington. I understand there isn't as much work there as there used to be but there's still some. If you're close to Southern Virginia you can also check out New Dominion Studios in Chesapeake(they've done several series for Discovery) and New Millennium Studios in Petersburg.
Here are a few links: http://www.wilmington-film.com/home.asp (check out the FAQ section) http://www.newdominion.com/ http://www.nmstudios.com/

Hey Sam,how's it going? Well I'm glad you are getting a well deserved break! I have confidence that you won't break a leg! Have you ever tried snowmobiling? It's a real blast and you have to try pretty hard to break a leg unless of course you drive one like Jeff Gordon!! So as I sit and watch "GH" my friends ask me how can she eat all that great food and still maintain a killer figure? Do you like to workout and stay in shape or does it come naturally! I run marathons so I know how hard it can be to maintain a certain fitness level!! Oh,another offbeat question, have you ever gotten stuck staying in the airport econo-lodge and said to yourself, god this place is really tacky!! Have a wonderful Christmas Sam, you are definetely my tv crush!!!

Dear Samantha, We discovered your show one day and are now completely hooked. I've ordered a guide so we can know for sure when your various shows are going to air in case we're going to be out...we can set the VCR. I've never traveled that much but after watching you tour cities & walk through hotels, I definitely have been bitten by the bug to be a little braver, a little more adventurous and set out for someplace new one day soon, probably in the spring. My mother was English and I was born in Southport, England...came over here when I was a little girl. I'd love to see you tour a few more places in that neck of the woods...England, Scotland, Ireland.
Anyway, just wanted to check in here and wish you well in all you do. You are a complete delight and we are greatly looking forward to new shows from you. Hey, I would definitely ask for a raise if I were you! Also, perhaps you've shared some of your background on some of the shows, but if so, I guess we've missed it. Would love to hear where you're from, if you're married & have a family, that sort of thing if it's not too personal.
Enjoy your much deserved respite for now. All the best to you! Jeanne Kremer P.S. I do wish this site had a "preview" area so I could take a look at my reply in case it needs editing or correcting.

Hi Samantha! I was in the gym today and I had the TV on your show. This girl came in and asked (in all seriousness) if I was related to you! Just thought that was funny since my friends say you remind them of me (both personality and looks). Let me know if you need a replacement for the show!

I was raised in NH so New England is my home. I especially love the Maine seacoast. If you ever go up Route 1 just before Ogunquit stop at Flo's hot dogs. It's a little shack, and i do mean shack where you could wait up to an hour for a dog. Get at least two hot dogs with "special sauce" INCREDIBLE!!! I highly recommend a bag of barbecue potato chips and a coke to complete the meal. But to answer your question. I don't know. I would love to do a show in N.E. but I don't know if the Travel Channel would consider it exciting enough for the viewers. Although, just the other day I was watching Travel Channel and "Buffalo N.Y Revealed" was on so I guess anything is possible.

I put the date in my schedule and I will definately email your wife on her birthday. Isn't it funny all the other Samantha Brown's out there? My favorite is the cat. A cat named Samantha Brown has her own website. It's a cute cat too. I grew up in NH but was born in Dallas, TX. Thanks for making me apart of your Sunday morning

Had I called you Ralph? If so I am sorry. I really hope that I won't break my leg either. Although today my horoscope said that December was not the month to do anything extreme. It really seems inevitable.

zlaxz,
Well how do you like ol' SU? Is it cold enough for ya? During the month of February my senior year there was only 28 minutes of sunshine. It's a tough climate. There is no exact way to do what I do but here's how I did it. I went to school for Acting, moved to NYC and auditioned, and auditioned and auditioned. Eventually someone hired me-the Travel Channel. The Travel Channel is not like a major network where they have a block of shows that need to be cast every year. As you can tell it's mostly non-hosted shows. If ever they need a new host for a show they might post something on their website or go directly thru casting agents. For me it was a combination of persistence and incredible luck. Good-luck in yourcareer.

Hey Brittni!
I want to try to come back for the Spring Musical. I think the first production in the new Theatre is going to be quite special. And you know how i feel about Mr. Quigley I would really like to be there to show my support for a man who had such a strong influence in my life. Do you know what you are doing for the musical yet?

nbedell,
Artthing gave you better advice than i could. NYC and LA are definately the major centers for TV and theatre but it's very easy to get lost in their vastness and endless stream of talented people. If you have something you know you want to do I see no reason not to try it first in an area where you feel secure and confident. Then as success comes (as I'm sure it will) you can have something to show the big guys in the big cities.

Hi Sam, love the show and like every other guy on this forum I have a serious crush on you and also envy your job. My question for you is have you ever traveled overseas to Greece and Italy or elsewhere? That would be my dream vacation a cruise of the Aegean Sea with stops in Crete, Athens and ancient Troy and maybe a little time in Rome for some Italian dining. Well have a Merry Christmas and looking forward to the new shows.

It's amazing the perks you get at even the basic chain hotels. I stayed at one recently and although the bed didn't have 300 count Egyptian cotton sheets and down pillows (something I've grown quite accostumed to in my princess-like lifestyle) There was a breakfast buffet (with pancakes!), an indoor pool and a great fitness room. So actually my attitude will work in reverse when I stay at these hotels that charge over 200 dollars a night and don't provide the things that the "econo-lodges" do.
Yes I eat a lot and work out a lot.

jeaniebeanie,
We are really, really, really, hoping we start to go oversees next season. It will just be a few places to start my guess would be London and Paris. Thank-you so much for discovering the show and so dilligently watching it. I believe on this website you can sign up for email alerts of when it will be on. It's a good idea seeing they change the time schedule frequently.

uscmle,
I was at a store one day when a man came up to me and said "has anyone ever told you that you look like that girl on the Travel Channel? What's her name?" I said: "you mean Samantha Brown?" He said "yeah, that's it." and then walked away. If i ever need a "sister" on the show I'll contact you. although, I'm sure my real sisters would be quite upset.

When I was in school I used to try to schedule classes around General Hospital and What's the Bo and Hope soap? oh well, anyway I have entered into a new frontier of a fan with you and I really appreciate your dedication. Really with Great hotels and Great vacation homes on why go to school at all? Just kidding!

I have been to Italy. I spent time in Rome, Chianti, and Florence and just loved it. There's a quality of life there that just can't be explained. I have also been to Spain and France and would love to expand my travels however I've got this job you see...

Hi Samantha, My girlfriends and I are trying to figure out a place to hit for spring break. We are not looking for your typical college-mtv-ish spring break, but we're looking for some place to go that will be equally exciting. There are a few stipulations, though. The whole trip has to be somewhat cheap (like under $400, but the lower the better). And being in the tristate NY area, we don't have cars, but we could rent one if necessary. Do you have any suggestions? We were thinking maybe New Orleans, Las Vegas, or San Francisco, but something closer and accessible via train would be good. Are those all relatively easy to navigate through public transportation? Do you know of any other web sites we should check out? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I agree totally with the poster who recommended the Coeur d' Alene Resort; it's in north Idaho, and I'm proud to say I grew up in that beautiful town. I live now in Portland, OR, and would love to see your show come here to some of the great hotels (hey! that could be the name of a show!! oh, sorry) in our downtown area. Portland is a wonderful place to visit; lots of activities and beautiful things to see. I love all your shows, and I want to thank you for making my first trip to Hawaii so terrific...I never considered myself a beach-person, but I watched Girl Meets Hawaii faithfully, and my once-in-a-lifetime trip to Maui turned into love at first sight with the island. How long were you in Hawaii ? I've seen all the episodes a dozen times, but I'll still watch 'em if I have the chance. Your personality and sense of fun comes through in all your shows; I'm a dedicated Travel Channel viewer now because of you. Oh, and please add my name to the list of people who want your job!

No prob, Samalama. I got your message and I'll get back to you soon. Glad that you remembered we've already talked about the Hay Adams. Anyway, I forgot one last link to help find agents or talent agencies. It's mainly for photographers and illustrators but I'm sure at least some of them would be looking for other types as well. You can search by city, state or area code as well as category. I think artists' representatives, employment agencies and talent & model agencies would be the best bets. Here's it is: http://www.workbook.com/directory/index.lasso

Hi! I have become a big fan of your show, and I was wondering if the show has been to Maine. You said in your Q and A that you would like a vacation home on the coast of Maine, so why hasn't there been an episode on the rocky shores of Maine? If our state can host to the likes of John Trovolta, Kristy Alley, and Don Maclain (He sang American pie) ( i live down the street from him!) Why cant Samantha Brown make a visit!? Take care, Jeanne
