That garden was the conservatory at The Bellagio. Breathtaking isn't it?

Of course I remember that home! I yodeled on the roof. It was in Lake Tahoe and it was built by two teachers who raised their children there. The woman was from Switzerland so the area reminded her of her own home. I have their names somewhere...they were the nicest people.

we just missed that area of CA electing to go to Half Moon Bay and Costanoa then up to Napa Valley. There is sooooo much to do on that coast.

I'm not sure why certain hotel weren't on the list. It could be something as simple as they were booked but I remember those two hotels in particular coming up in the meetings. The Four Seasons is a big absence I think. oh well. Red Apple Martini"s Where did you get those? Why don't you give me your email address and i'll send you a picture Wink

that's a pretty easy dream to fullfill Big Grin I believe The Monarch hadn't opened yet when the producers were setting up the schedule. But we heard a lot of wonderful things about it. People speak very highly of it.

my background is acting so I will always have a strong pull towards that profession. In my time off I would love to do Regional Theatre-the problem being I have no time off. Frown I would love to do more with the Travel Channel in the way of traveling extensively to other countries and combining my humor with more intelligent information on histories of people and destinations. I also very much miss working with other people like I had the pleasure to do in Great Vacation Homes. So in my travels I would hope there would always be people I could meet up with. I am extremely lucky to work with the Travel Channel in that they have given me incredible artistic freedom and control of the image that I want to present. I would lose a lot of that control if I moved to a major network. Yes, i would make a lot more money but for now it isn't about that. (when I want my own vacation home and a hot red sports car-it most certainly will be Big Grin Wink)

Thank-you for asking Smile

Well, I assume that this will be locked up soon, so I wanted to say see ya next time and thanks for the week! Your timing was perfect, providing me a couple hours escape in what has proven to be a very long and difficult week for me and my family. (and not just beacause the flippin Cubs can't put the Astro's behind them!)

Anyway, as always I look forward seeing you on tv...the old and the new! Although this constant oscillating between long and short hair is just too wierd! I like it long. Can't have long hair myself. It's too think and wavey and tends to take on its own personality if I let it go. I also look forward to hearing from you again...hopefully sooner than the last one! It is always a pleasure and an priviledge to exchange wit with a personality such as you!

And dejardins...if you're out there...you know that both teams are going to drag this out only to break our hearts in the end. (sigh) Frown I'd like to say at least it's football season...but then I remember that we've only got the painful to watch Bears to suffer through.

OK...I'm back to ripping out old carpet (yuck!) and discovering the surprises which lie beneath!

Take Care!

Roll Eyes So sorry to join this discussion late. I am so glad to see you back on the boards!! I hope you enjoyed filming the new season and hope you had a wonderful summer! I managed to squeeze in trips to Hershey Park, Texas and my favorite: Disney World Big Grin. I stayed at the Beach Club and made sure to talk to Art the Greeter. I asked him about you and the pin trading you did with him. He told me he would love to see you again because you were a very pleasant woman and just as fun off the camera as you were on the camera. He said you made him feel less nervous. As far as the pin you traded...well... he traded it with someone else on accident Frown I also ordered the kitchen sink- it "looked" great, but with all those flavors in one spoonful....*moving right along*...
I was wondering if you ever received the picture of Scooby Doo I drew for you (after I heard he was your favorite character)? I sent that and a letter to the address you gave me. Hope to talk with you soon!
*Ashley*

hi again Sam. the Spineynorman reference should be on episode one, year 2 of the Flying Circus. the name of the sketch has something to do with the Piranha Brothers. it should be the last sketchof that episode. it begins something like this... "Last Tuesday a reign of terror was ended when the notorious Piranha brothers, Doug and Dinsdale, after one of the most extraordinary trials in British legal history, were sentenced to 400 years imprisonment for crimes of violence. We examined the rise to power of the Piranhas, the methods they used to subjugate
rival gangs and their subsequent tracking down and capture by the brilliant Superintendent Harry 'Snapper' Organs of Q Division."

I can't believe how much gray matter is being tied up by storing old monty python sketches.

Yeah producing is exhausting but I love the adventure and I bet you do to. Though when a crewmember got heat stroke during the taping of a Road racing show last year I felt pretty darn guilty. I don’t know how you stay on the road so long without going insane, though I recently heard Dr. Phil say that sanity is overrated. I’m sure your typical days are 12-15 hours long and you have to look great and be your cheery, funny self day after day for months as a time while at the same time writing the material or do you write the material in armoir. That would actually be a pretty funny shot. I can see you in there, in flannel PJs with a pen and one of those book lights lighting a note pad.

Hey at least you get to stay in fancy hotels. My budgets don’t allow for fancy suites, unless I’m in the Canadian Rockies, then I treat myself to a nice place. You guys should really go there though my favorite place doesn’t comp rooms even for publicity. On this trip along the entire rocky mountain range, after getting up before the sun and hiking or riding up some darn mountain shooting video and Stills (for the companion book see www.synergymedia.com) and then driving to the next location I get to eat where and what the locals eat (usually not pretty unless you like it brown) and stay in mostly mom and pop places that are surprisingly often are run by families from India. The most wonderful curry aromas fill the lobby because its right off the kitchen. What’s worse is they never have a restaurant. So, you can’t have what they’re having—you get subway.

Its not really that bad and really the probs just add to the adventure and producing this stuff is actually easier than producing/writing multimedia projects where you not only have to oversee and write hours of finished video but also 50,000 or so software files and the people that write them while making sure that everything works while telling a compelling story. That’s not fun. TV fun.

Enough ranting
I’m glad you’re working on a Palin type show. You’ll be great at it. Hey maybe one day our shows will run back to back on the Travel channel.

And yes the ride up Logan Pass in Glacier NP can be pretty tough. Most of it is up until you get to the very very top. Then, it tends to slope away rather sharply.

Ooops sorry this is so long. Hey, do you have people? If so, can one of them send me photo? steve@synegrymedia.com Not you, you deserve a good rest in that armoir in you fancy room?

Hey there Sam...thanks for such a speedy response. With your schedule, I can truly appreciate it. As an attorney, I can appreciate hectic schedules, but I am sure that you have me beat. As for the red apple martinis, the Four Seasons in Las Vegas serves them. I was dining with a bunch of Viking appliance people who introduced me to this new drink. They are made with Crown Royal in lieu of vodka. Crown Royal, Apple Pucker, and cranberry juice. I thought it sounded revolting. However, it is very smooth, tastes like a red apple and is slightly less sweet than its green counterpart. Try it, and I am sure you'll like it. Another good one to try, if you have not done so, is Hpnotiq. It is often difficult to obtain. It has a beautiful blue hue and tastes tropical. It is a potent beverage.

Now that I have rambled, my e-mail address is JulieVU4U@aol.com. We'd love a picture. If you change your mind about the drink, let me know. I heard that Rise bar has a martini in honor of lady liberty called the Libertini(sp?). Thanks again for the reply.

Hey Samantha. How are you doing? I was just wondering if you knew about the E-Ride night that they have in Disney World? It is the coolest thing. If you are staying at a Disney hotel, you are able to stay at the Magic Kingdon after hours. It's only like $12 and you can go on the best Magic Kingdom rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, the Haunted Mansion and a few others. I thought it would be a good idea if you did this the next time you stay at a Disney hotel after the Christmas special. I have done it a few times with my brother and we loved it. Talk to you later.

Hey Samantha. How are you doing? I was just wondering if you knew about the E-Ride Night that Disney has? What it is is if you are staying at a Disney hotel, you are able to stay at the Magic Kingom after hours and go on the most popular rides in the park with hardly any wait. Some of the rides that are open are Splash Mountain, Space Mountain and the Haunted Mansion. It's only like $12 but you have to be a guest at a Disney hotel to be able to go. I thought if you were going to be staying at a Disney hotel the next season of Great Hotels, you can go to an E-Ride night. The only thing is that it is only on select nights during the week. I have done it with my brother a few times and we loved it.

Looks like GVH and GMH are on their way to TV heaven after this month (though I've heard GVH may move to Discovery Home and Leisure). I'm saddened, but not surprised, to see them go, so before this forum ends, I wanted to thank you, Sam, for those great shows. GVH always showed you at your most natural while hanging around with incredibly fun people at beautiful houses. Plus, I'll miss that IRRESISTIBLE theme song that I find myself humming whenever I'm down. And GMH brought Hawaii, a place far out of many of our reaches, to our living rooms with a quirky and accessible vibe. (Plus, the bathing suit scenes helped-sorry.) Wink Most importantly, though, those two shows had a wonderfully endearing and lovely host who put fun in every one of those thirty minutes. In any case, thanks again for those two memorable programs, and at least we still have you on Great Hotels.

I hope the next week is a better one for you and yours. Try not to let our sports teams get you too down. I see the Sox have lost to the Twins and that the Astros have won yet again. I chased the Twins to Cleveland hoping to put the hex on them but they won two out of three while I was there Frown.

And I hate to disappoint you again, but I'm not a Bears fan. I started following football in the early 70's when the Monsters didn't even have Payton (RIP) to make them watchable. As a result, for various reasons, I became a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so I can't complain too much.

Take of yourself. Who knows, when we talk again it may be about the impending Sox-Cubs series!

I am so curious. Are you related to, ie. Katie Brown's sister? The other day, I happened upon your show on the Travel channel, which was great, but when I heard your voice, I thought it was Katie Brown. Are you related?

P.S. My husband and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary in December. Any fabulous suggestions for Austin, Texas. This is where we live and will not have time to leave Austin. Thanks

I think I could die happy now, I got a response from Samantha Brown! :-)

While I won't be officially at Disney until January, I have been considering going back and just visiting for a few days. When in November will you be there? Are you in need of a personal assistant, say, someone to go get you some coffee, ice cream, those giant cookies from the Main Street Bake Shop (please tell me you've discovered the Main Street Bake Shop), or a turkey leg? I'm there for you, Sam! Anything you need! I can even fetch you all the free cookies and hot cocoa you want at the Magic Kingdom Christmas Party. The cookies aren't that great, but they're free, so who cares! And go watch Illuminations with the glasses you get at the MGM Spectacle of Lights, it puts little angels all over Illuminations. Very trippy.

Ok, so yeah, I'm a little obsessive over Disney at Christmas, it was my favorite time there, and I'm insanely excited about your special :-)

Sam,

Sadly, I passed 21 some time ago,11 years ago. I'm 32, born in 1971. I don't know wht year you were born, and do not expect you to post that! But I would surmise you to be in your late teens. Possibly a high school senior saving $$ for college by visiting these hotels. Big Grin

Still, I'm not too old to enjoy the "***** Tales" room at The Library Hotel!

As you can tell by Capttuttle and Mother Orange your presence was very much missed this time around. I take the blame I know I have been away for some time. It's very hard to find the time to do this when I only have 5 days off in the month. so please forgive me. I'm so happy you met Art and I agree about the Kitchen Sink. I'm a total junk food junkie but even I found it a bit sickening with all those flavors. I have not received your Scooby Doo picture Frown

Did you send it to this address

I hope you and your family is doing well!

It was fantastic hearing from you all. Again I apologize for my absence -things just become extremely hectic when I am traveling. To all those who left your email addresses I will be getting in touch with you shortly about pictures. I think the next forum will be at the beginning of December so look for the open forum then.
