Sam- Do you think I could get an autographed picture for my 4 year old daughter, Kelly? If so, who can I give my address to?
Also, when do you have time to exercise and what do you do for exercise?
We were watching you on TV in the weight room at church (I exercise there and barely anyone uses it, so Kelly can come, too-President Bush (Dad) lives around the corner and attends- I am from Houston- but I digress)when this little old lady came in to walk on the treadmill and asked if we could change the channel so she could get a war update. I reluctantly did, and Kelly started crying, sobbing, "Mom, but Samantha Brown is on!" We were in church and I felt obligated to let her have a peek at the news, but we had to change it right back for Kelly! I did look back at some previous posts to see if I could find answers to my questions. No one had asked about exercise, but someone did ask about your clothes. They really do look so cute, but, like being pregnant, you probably get sick of those outfits, although the audience loves them. Can you tell me where you get some of the evening outfits? Thanks and have a great weekend!

I am Robbie Brewer, a 13 year old, who lives in Beaufort, SC. You should come to SC and do a show. This is not just cause i am from sc, it is just there are so many wonderful hotels and historic sites. Hotels I recommend in Charleston: Market Pavilion, John Rutledge House, and Wentworth Mansion. Please do not go to Charleston Place. I stayed on the club floor and the bar tender up there treated me very domineeringly. Staff at hotels sometimes treat kids differently than adults and that is just unfair. There are also many hotels I want to see outside of sc on great hotels. They include: w atlanta, ritz carlton buckhead, westin peachtree plaza, peninsula ny, the regency ny, the ritz-carlton boston common, XV beacon (you need to go there, I went in there to poke around, it is the best hotel in the Northeast), and The Westin Los Cabos. Your show is the best and your personality is awesome. I so want your job. It would be a dream!!!!!!!!! Thank you for listening. You are the best.

Hey, Sam, how are things in my favorite city? I hear it's like an armed camp there. I live just south of the Loop in Chicago, and it's been a bit annoying listening to sirens and helicopters (it seems everytime someone pulls out a protest sign, 5 squad cars arrive).

I'm proud to say I stayed at one of your hotels, the Hollywood Renaissance. It was the host hotel for a classic movie convention I attended last September and I was very impressed by it (and yes I had a view of the Hollywood sign from my room). Cool decor and great Oatmeal Butterscotch Tollhouse cookies at the Hollywood-Highland complex. My fellow attendees raved about the place (quite a step up from the Hollywood Roosevelt) and I'm sure we'll be staying there again.

Hey Samantha. Today.. I went to an abandoned pyschiatric center around the corner from me, which is said to be one of the most "Haunted Places" on Long Island. I got some pretty cool pictures from it and maybe even spotted a ghost or two Eek (according to everyone who has seen the picture). I was wondering if you are interested in haunted stuff or not? For me.. I find it real fun. I like getting scared haha. Big Grin

Sam,

I work for the company that owns Food Network (I'm sure you know who that is). We had Emeril up here last summer for a taping but the guy didn't show up until after 6 p.m. so I missed him. I don't mind watching him cook but I CAN'T STAND his audience, it's like watching the Arsenio Hall Show (remember that embarrassing moment in TV history). Besides, how many 'notches' can you kick something up (what is a notch anyway?).
I only saw Two Fat Ladies once, then I saw how much butter they used and my heart skipped a beat (I never watched them again).
But the best show (besides yours of course) is Good Eats. That man is a genius. His ribs are to die for and his cheesecake blows away any NY cheesecake out there. Speaking of which, I have to make a cheesecake today for my daughters 7th birthday. I'd send you a piece but there is never anything left.

And noooo, I'm not 400 lbs. Actually, my wife gets rather upset at me because I can eat anything I want and never gain an ounce.

Adios

karld,

I love car racing! My father races cars (formula 2) and my childhood summers were spent going to Skip Barber racing school. Most of the people that raced were very well off and would arrive in their Porshe's and Ferrari's. The Brown family would pull up in the ol' pontiac boneventure station wagon with fake wood-siding. My sister was even a race car mechanic and now lives in NC and does some writing for speed sport news. I never caught the racing bug however, sometimes I'll put racing on the TV just to hear the sound because it reminds me of my Dad.

Just because you like NASCAR doesn't make you a beer guzzling red-neck-although, my sister who works the NASCAR circuit could drink you under the table. Wink

you betcha! I never pass up any opportunity for fried dough. I missed the butter sculpture or maybe I've just since forgotton. State Fairs are the best. I love looking at the live stock to see which pig and cow won. I'm going to passs on your great advice about England onto Patraveler. Okay? And just for the record 80's music is still the best music EVER! aside from Motown.

I would love to send your Kelly a picture. Just leave me an email address where I can contact you for your street address. I can't believe she recognizes me that well that she cries when someone turns the channel-so I'm like Barney? I love it!

excersizing-y'know I've just completely overhauled my routine. Usually I do a lot of the cardio machines. The Precor thing with the arms is my favorite because it works the entire body. However, and maybe you have found this to be true as well, It seems like the more cardio I do the hungrier I get. And it wears my body out. Doesn't that stink? So I'm cutting way back on Cardio and going for resistence-barbells and such. And lots of lunges. The best thing that worked for my stomach was Pilates based exersizes. I was doing crunches in my sleep and nothing happened until I switched.

I'll have to tell my stylist your comments about the clothes. I was talking to her the other day and she said she still can't bring herself to look at last years wardrobe yet. They are my maternity clothes.

ritzlover,

Great info-and Hey! I'm not about to argue with a 13 year old Red Face Wink I do believe you stay at nicer places than the Great hotel crew! We may have to make you a producer. Charleston and ATlanta should be high on the list because we need to do more Southern destinations. Not to mention I haven't had any good southern fried food since my days doing Great Vacation Homes. I hate it when people are snotty period. How do hotels treat kids differently? I don't have your perspective and I think what you say is interesting. It may help me out for next season.. I'm always so flattered when cool teenagers watch and like the show so thanks for the ego boost.

dejardins,

no armed camp here, all is pretty mellow-although I really should speak for 2 million people. The Classic movie convention sounds great-were you there on business or pleasure? When I was there I did not receive any Oatmeal Butterscotch toll-house cookies. And let me tell you I'm NOT too happy about that. May have to go back just for them cookies.

Sam:
Kelly would love a picture, however, she is way too smart for the likes of Barney! She can hum your theme song, too, which is a lot more pleasant than the Barney song. She's not crazy obsessed, but being a 4 year old but she goes back and forth between Samantha Brown and Dorothy (as in Oz) as her next Halloween costume. That's your competition. She nearly died when you mentioned the Yellow Brick Road by the piano when you were at the Chateau Marmont, I believe. She'll want to wear my Anne Cole suit with the skirt to be you, I bet!
My husband and I get her to eat her dinner by telling her what Samantha Brown might say about the egg salad sandwich or beefy stew, etc. Too funnny and entertaining. She can relate to you, also, because we have been to places like San Francisco and we have a beach house on Balboa Island, so we frequent Los Angeles and Santa Monica. She recognizes the cable cars. Well, enough about that!
I understand about the cardio thing. I like kick-boxing and spinning and I have a personal trainer help me with weights. I need to try Pilates again, thanks for the tip. Lunges are great (Kelly even likes to do them- too funny to watch). We stress exercise for being healthy, not because mommy might needs to lose a few extra pounds! Ha!
I spend way too much time with my only child. Well, not really. She does go to school.
Thanks for considering a picture for Kelly. I could send you one of her, so you won't think we are crazy.

Hi Sam, I am a travel agent and discovered your show, Great Hotels, a few months ago. You always focus on the things I would want to know about a hotel and the area around it. In my business I need all the resources I can get to pass along info to my clients. I live near Chicago and especially liked the shows you did on the Monaco and Burnham hotels. You do a great job!

Hey, you had a typo in one of your last posts. You obviously meant to say 70’s music was the best ever (okay, I’m aging myself).

Glad to see NY is taking it all in stride. New Yorkers are a resilient lot.

The movie convention is called Cinecon and it was definitely pleasure. For three solid days during Labor Day, we geeks…er, that is, we movie aficionados, watch films from about 9 in the morning til midnight at the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, only breaking for lunch, dinner and that movie you couldn’t sit through to save your life. Shorts, silent movies, cartoons, you name it we watch it. We also get to see old-time movie people. Last year we had Robert Stack, Glynis Johns, Ann Rutherford and Mickey Rooney show up amongst others and in past years, Virginia Mayo, Eddie Bracken, even Fay Wray. It’s a mixed group of attendees with ages ranging from 20’s through 80’s.

There are also memorabilia rooms where they have posters, photos, videos, films and the like for sale (looking forward to finding out what my autographed Samantha Brown will be worth in a few years Wink).

Greetings to you from that special place where the vale of Onondaga meets the eastern sky! (or is it western?) I have been here in Syracuse since I arrived on campus in 1969 as a small-town girl from southern Maine. My husband and I both work at S.U., so maybe our paths have crossed. I wonder where you lived? We travel as often as we can, and we have enjoyed watching your shows since they started. We ask nothing more of you than to keep on doing what you do so well. So how did I come to post this, my first ever message? My son, currently a freshman at Syracuse, heard from a Shaw dorm mate that you were a former student. Wondering if this was the truth or a rumor, I googled your name and found this fan site. I have been so very entertained reading the posts and replies! It is amazing how you willingly take the time to connect with so many different people. You are one of a kind. In the early days of HGTV, my husband hosted a gardening show that was locally produced. He always felt that keeping up with viewer mail and questions was the hardest part of the job, but the positive feedback really meant alot. It is obvious that you mean many things to many people, and you should be proud of that. I think our Alumni News Magazine should do a story on you and your shows. I will suggest it to them if you like. Whether or not you win that Emmy. you could be a cover girl! The orange hair will be great. Sure worked for Lucy's career.

Just wanted to say "see ya next month". I figured the board would close tomorrow and I have to work...animals don't pay attention to weekends. Also wanted to add that my first concert was Duran Duran...Nick Rhodes still makes me swoonSmile Ahh the good old days!!

As always, thanks for being readily available to your fans. It is refreshing. I actually answered a question recently with "a friend of mine said..." and the friend was you!

Give Fiona a scratch under the chin and a pinch of catnip from me. Thanks again for the warm thoughts regarding my mom and yours.

See ya in a month or so!

Question: Is there anything you or your crew have to pay for yourselves at these hotels - amenities etc…? (you lucky dog getting all those free spa treatments!) Razz
Someone mentioned that some of these fancy schmancy places might not need the publicity.

That story of you trying to lose your voice at the Journey concert is too funny Big Grin
You’re right we have way much in common! Journey was also MY first concert and I also saw them at a statium (JFK) that no longer exists.
I also had a hot date with my fella tonight (who happens to look like Alan Rickman - who we both have a crush on Wink Actually I met him cause I went up to him & told him he looked like Alan Rickman!)
I too picked all the Krackel bars out of the mixed bag Red Face
I also had done crunches forever and switched to pilates and noticed a difference right away!
AND my hair is red now!
Hey, are you me? Wink
I’ve never seen us right next to each other so I guess it’s possible.
Your fellow dement-head,
Kathy

P.S. Funny, my boyfriend said once during one of your bathing suit scenes, “Ah.. Samantha does her pilates” Smile

Hello Samantha!!

After watching you on the Travel Channel for so long, I checked to see if you had a fan site online. And what a surprise it exists! And it's a fan site/forum where you actually participate in actively!

This cements an important fact: you are The Perfect Representation for the "average Joe and Jane" for your job. I'm sure I'm not the only person that lives vicariously through you. Fret not as respects any over-reacting, etc. It's purely entertaining to watch you. Don't change a thing. Keep up the good job.

I wonder if you've thought of parlaying your travel experience it into a personal entrepreneurial book project? A book with travel humor, advice, recommendations, etc.

Just wondering....

Sonya
