Dear Sam,

It appears you've pecked yourself out for the evening, so I think it's safe now to leave you a little literary gift for tomorrow. Mother O. and I did indeed have a little Pact Made In Evilness; she convinced me (this is HER idea) that since we seem to be about the only ones left who have not yet asked for the legendary autographed photo, she would do so if I would take the plunge as well. So I now am taking that intimidating step, on bended knee asking if you, Samantha would please send me one of your prized photographs (Mother O, you sure better follow suit tomorrow, or you will have been very evil indeed). If you're doing any European themed shots, Sam, I think I'd particularly like a Spanish Samantha one, long stemmed rose gripped firmly between your teeth, but I'm not terribly choosy. E-mail address is not my main one, but a handy back-up which I'll definitely get: dem6p@yahoo.com

And now as recompense, Samantha, I have something stored away for you since last January or Feb. One cold afternoon, after basking in the Elizabethan afterglow of watching Shakespeare In Love again, which for me changes my entire inner speech patterns for a few hours afterwards as I love the cadences of blank verse, I dashed this off for you to use in a future hotel presentation (how was I to know Great Hotels was going on hiatus then, though I frankly prefer your visiting actual destinations in Europe to more domestic bathrooms...) but at the same time letting you employ your own classical thespian skills. So in recompense for an autographed photo from you, here is your own Samanthean Shakespearean hotel room soliloquy to do with as you wish, I suppose now as thanks for the three years of my delight in watching you romp through so many places I'll certainly not enjoy (which is fine - I never wanted to; I just wanted to watch you romp). I think it's more or less in good blank verse, and is meant to be read aloud (at least to your cat). Let's hope the narrow margins here don't mess things up:

Samantha:

But soft, what light through yonder armoire gleams?
It is the mini-bar! So bounteous with its queenly gifts
at kingly costs; intoxicating my account 'til it be nought.
And e're new morn on sylphlike breeze rode in
did I, in mini-bar assisted slumber, heavenly,
through full sweet night in Queen Mab's reverie,
dream deep upon down-feathered fluffy bed
meant surely for heroic gods alone
(with thread count numbered by the tactile score),
and yet, in Fame's good fortune and felicity,
is cast into my well-stocked Junior Suite
by hotel keepers full in bright pursuit
of good publicity for my comely trade.
And now, well-bubbled, soaked and rinsed with free amenities,
thus shall I seek my carb-free breakfast hence.
But, lo! Where is my steadfast cameraman?
And whence my faithful make-up maid?
Anon, then only can I face the coming day
with proper blush, well-touselled locks,
and non-pareil, doe-eyed countenance.

Chorus:

Thus by these words melliflous,
tripped o'er her gilded tongue with ease,
doth fades Samantha to commercial break,
suspending us in yearning yet for more.
But only ads for Hooked On Phonics meet our eyes.
Wherefore, then, is Samantha now? O Death, where is thy sting?

I can particularly envision Derek Jacobi, as he was in Henry V, somewhat overdoing the chorus/narrator's role for you. The rest, Sam, I leave to your imagination and devices.

And sweetly innocent young seventeen year-old Samantha as preggers on the high school stage? No doubt the good citizens of New Hampshire were indeed scandalized and mortified, surely convinced you were headed straight down the iniquitous road to something as degenerate as tv travel goddess. And it's shockingly come true, all with that special gleam in your eye, too. Have a nice little Wedsnesday, Samantha, and thanks.

Hi Samantha thank you for the responce to my previous message. You missunderstood me just a little, my friends and I dont wake up to watch your show. We stay up all night long until your show comes on at 9 a.m. then we watch all four episodes, then we crash into a deep hibranating sleep. I would love it if the next time you visit your friend here in the Detroit area of Michigan you give me a notice. Maybe if its cool with you my friends and your friends could meet up and hang out im sure we all would have a great time. I live about 20 minutes from Royal Oak. It is an awsome party town, with lots of clubs and pubs to hang out at, I just got home from another nearby town called Mt Clemens and just saw a concert with my cousin. We saw the Psychedelic furs and the Alarm. It was pretty cool to hear all that retro music. I left my e-mail address in a previous message in hopes of recieving an autograph picture of you. It would be pretty cool if we could talk from time to time via the internet with our e-mails. Maybe I can eventually become another reason for you to visit the Detroit area of Michigan. Big Grin Maybe I could coax you into coming to visit your friend (cough cough and me in Michigan) sometime soon. Big Grin(sh## grin)

Oh yeah I have another question when your doing your shows on all those travel locations and motels does it actually feel like your on vacation when your home in your own house. Since your work consists of vacation destinations. I look at it like this your vacation destinations is your work so that meens your time off from work is when your at home. So does that meen your like the opposite of everyone els you go home to enjoy a vacation from traveling LOL Smile

Im gonna leave my e-mail address again in reguards of recieving an autographed picture of you. I will also keep my fingers crossed in hopes that you will add my e-mail address to your list of friends and send me an e-mail from time to time when ever your board or have any free time. I will also keep you in my prayers like you have been allready for you to have safe journeys in your work. Good luck with your shows you have definatly changed my life with your upbeat personality. You totally set my mood for my day ahead everyday and I thank you for that.

Take care Samantha Wink

Samantha, I always thought Gerry was the head, but I was never sure. I was a Film/Drama major, so most of my classes were at Schaeffer. Owen Shapiro was the head of the film department back then. I had Gerry for most of my drama classes down at the theatre. She had more energy and chutzpah than most of the students who were half her age.lol I do remember the drama and musical theatre majors being a tight group. There were only a few of us film guys in some of the drama classes, so we weren't really a part of that. Did you ever have the wings and potato wedges from Sal's Birdland when you were up there? I'm getting hungry just thinking about them, yummy! I think the wings and the neverending snow are the two things I miss most from upstate N.Y.
I totally agree about needing an hour to really show all the Atlantis has to offer. You could probably spend a half an hour just on the water slides and aquariums. Where did you stay on your recent vacation to Hawaii? I stayed at the Hyatts on Kauii and Mauii, the Hilton Waikoloa Village on Hawaii, and the Kahala Mandarin outside of Honolulu. If, and when, I ever get married, I'd say going back to Hawaii would probably be my first choice for a honeymoon, with Aruba (my favorite vacation spot) being a close second.
I've got a great idea for a show you can do between your travels to far off places. You can do a show on all the best restaurants in NYC. You'll get to be close to home, and get lots of gourmet meals on the Travel Channel's tab. Wink
Well, have a great night!

If my memory serves me right (which at my age is never a sure thing) today is the anniversary of your birth! I rose at this ungodly hour to be one of the first to wish you a happy birthday (actually, I’m up because I’m an insomniac, but that’s beside the point).

As much as we may dread these things, they are always a good time to think back on where you have been and where you are going, which in your case seems pretty far (literally). When you speak to your parents, remember to give them our thanks for the beautiful gift they bestowed upon us all. No matter how rotten a kid you profess to have been you turned out all right.

And remember, a birthday is a good excuse to kick back a few, have a laugh with a few friends, a great dinner and then some things to make Fiona blush!

With love,
Darryl

Good day to you, Samantha! I see I must jump on here right away or endure the Captain's wrath, and I will try to be more coherent in the early morn that I was in the late night hours, when I could not even spell "aloha spirit" correctly for ashley-kristen's bon voyage note. Now I remember that in my first post, I said something like how I would ask nothing of you other than to keep doing what you do so well, but now with everyone talking about their lovely photos received in the mail, the Captain and I have been feeling a little jealous. And even though my little gift of song in December churned up Gong Show memories, I did at least try to give you something.
Now when I was a young girl of 10, I was a big fan of the "Beverly Hillbillie," and sent a nice letter one day to the stars. I particularly enjoyed the whimsical, intelligent style of Granny, and was totally thrilled to receive a neatly autographed picture of Irene Ryan (may she rest in peace). My joy was brief, for on the very next day, I got a similar piucture of Jed Clampett (Buddy Ebson) autographed with the very same pen and exact same handwriting! I was completely crushed, and have never again found it necessary to seek out an autograph. And I really don't NEED one. But, if you have to do them anyway, and it must be so tedious for you, I will clear off a special place for you on my refrigerator, and will even promise to buy some impressive hotel and travel themed magnets to stick you up there with..perhaps a suitcase, a bathroom fixture or two, some sort of chocolate..so think about it, and I will hope captuttle's vision of that cigar-chomping dude in Queens does not include a stack of photos, envelopes and a pen! I'm off to work. And take a 24 break from this if you feel like it. I can't believe you posted right through "Good Eats" last night. Oh,and since you need to brush up on your French, I can be reached at the following email address.... meredorange@yahoo.com. Thanks. I mean it.
Mother Orange
P.S. Oh, I think we got 180 inches of snow so far, but I try to forget statistics like that! It's not over yet.

Well done, Mother O, a person whose sparkling and gentle personality I've come to be particularly fond, and all by having come to know her thanks to this board (and evidently a particularly crushing Syracuse winter). And I believe I miss-spelled Wednesday late last night as well.

You know, from Dejardins' veiled hint on his original post, I began to wonder if this weren't going to be one of Those Days for Samantha, and no doubt it will be a festive one (with understandably few posts). I'll say no more on this little subject.

And what am I DOING here at 8 AM? (Carol should be rising for her West Coast beach walk about now.) This does not, Sam, count as one of my posts, as I don't really count birthdays any longer...

Oh, Kel, pleeeeease don't do this to me! You know I can't resist. Already 5 posts and only 9 a.m. on day number three. I am trying to be better. I really am. And you're off by 200 years. Great baseball weather, too (even 40 or so in central VA right now - yuck). I'm not posting again until the Travel Goddess speaks to me, and I mean it (in theory).

yes the island is off the coast of cap cod. the reason I asked you is, on the chatham bars inn episode you had mentioned that you summerd on the cape. When I was a teen I worked on a lobster boat during the day and Seths rawbar @ night on the island. The girls name that ran the rawbar boat was Sam brown. Just thought it might have been you, but it wasn't so mystery solved. Thank you for taking the time to answer me.

ps: great show!! keep up the good work.

Well, I just found this section of the forum. And I have to say it again; Samantha, you take my breath away. You are the most refreshing and genuine person on television. As a matter of fact, you have pretty much dominated my thoughts recently--I suppose you could call it a crush. Well God's blessings to you on all the nominations and we hope to keep hearing from and (especially) seeing you in the future.

Dear Sam,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to all of our posts. I am learning some things I didn't know by reading some of these post. Good for you take a trip to Europe. That will fun. I am really really happy Great Hotels has been nominated for 4 Emmys. That is just really great.
You're are right about the Wheatleigh Hotel. That has to be my 3rd favorite on my list of episodes now. I just caught the episode yesterday. I checked out their website, very nice.
My husband said to tell you that his favorite musician Tommy Makem lives in Dover, he himself lived in Derry, and I think I've mentioned his sister lives in Concord NH. He, of course, is from NYC, and as one of Neil Diamond songs says "New York City look at me now, I down here behind the plow; Maryland, don't get annoyed, I ain't no hippie just a New York Boy"...ha ha.
Our handle is "themoore_fam" a shortie for The Moore Family, but I am definately a "Moore_Fan" .
Keep well and keep up the good work. Take Care!

This is going to be a long post. You'll find 3 recipes here, all of which compliment each other deliciously. To get the full culinary experience you'll need to make the tenders, the bleu cheese dipping sauce and the dipping sauce for your fries.

Plump boneless chicken breasts
Lime Juice
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Flour, Onion Powder, and Garlic Powder
Frank's Red Hot Sauce
Butter
Cayenne Pepper
Green Onions

Slice the chicken breasts lengthwise into strips. If the strips are long, it's OK to cut them in half. Once you have a nice pile of chicken strips, get a glass jar (I use a clean mayonnaise jar) and fill it up about halfway with 50% olive oil and 50% lime juice. Dump the chicken into the marinade...if this doesn't fill the container you're using, go ahead and add more oil & juice until it's almost all the way to the top. Seal the jar and give it a good shake before it goes into the fridge overnight (or at least several hours).

In a small bowl, pour out 1/2 cup of flour and add 1 teaspoon of onion powder and garlic powder to it. Mix well and set aside.

In a saucepan, begin heating up 1 cup of Frank's. Slice 6 or 7 tablespoons of butta off of the stick in 1 tbsp squares and melt in the red hot sauce. Add a dash of cayenne...not TOO much, or you'll get a sinus-opener that'd make Vicks jealous (I learned this the hard way). About 1/2 teaspoon is usually as aggressive as I get with it, or 1 levelled teaspoon if I'm feeling daring. Make sure you stir the sauce frequently or the butter could separate. At this point I pour the flour mixture out onto a piece of wax paper and get the tenders out of the fridge. Pluck them out of the marinade one at a time and roll them gently in the flour mixture. I say "gently" because you don't want a thick covering on the chicken...only a light dusting. The tenders aren't supposed to be crispy, the goal is for a soft exterior. If you like thick breading on your chicken though, it'll still work. Smile

I strongly recommend having a deep fryer on hand for frying. I've used a shallow cast iron pan, and the proximity of the chicken to the heat source led to much crispier tenders than I intended. Take a few tenders and put them into your fryer for about 1 1/2 - 2 minutes. Take one out and cut it in half to make sure it's cooked. The goal is for them to spend the least amount of time in the oil which will allow them to cook completely. Blot them dry and drop them into the hot sauce for a thorough soaking. Pile 'em on a plate after that and they're ready! Chop up some green onions and sprinkle over the tenders.

Well, they're not entirely ready. Beforehand you MUST make the bleu cheese sauce. The tenders are almost naked without it, and you can't have any kind of wings without dippin's!

2 cups sour cream
2 cups mayonnaise
1 1/2 cups half & half
2 Tbsp. chives, chopped
1 tsp salad supreme (It's a bottle of mixed spices, made by McCormicks)
1 tsp celery salt
1 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp onion powder
2 oz. lemon juice

Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
Crumble 3/4 lb. blue cheese and mix into the dressing by hand. Voila!

This last piece is optional, but how is hot spicy chicken *anything* complete without fries?? And with fries comes yet another fattening concoction to dip 'em in. This dipping sauce is to die for.

1 cup mayo
1 1/8 cup sour cream
1/4 TB garlic salt
1/4 tsp celery salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp wostershire sauce
1/8 tsp curry powder
1/4 tsp dill weed
1 TB chives
2 tsp vinegar
1/4 TB lemon juice
Mix it all up, let it set in the fridge for bit and that's all.

Pig out and enjoy!

Since once chocoholic would never steer another chocoholic wrong I will give the other shows a try. But they just do not seem to have as much fun as you do and definitely do not have your energy.

If you are interested I have a recipe for chocolate-chocolate chip cookies that I make when my wife and I travel. They are chocolate cookies with white, milk and semi-sweet chips and as long as you are not trekking across the dessert they hold up fairly well.

Hey Sam,is it true it's your birthay today,I had no idea.Well, happy birthday and I hope you had one for me! I don'tknow exactly how old you are,but if I had to guess I would say we are about a year apart. Heck,I don't feel very old yet,so I hope you don't either Wink How long have we been doing this forum now, almost two years? Wow,how time flys! I feel we are sort of friends only if in cyberworld and it's very nice that you take the time to come back and visit. This season of GH is one with my favorite Sam moment of all time although I don't remember the hotel, and that is when you make reference to the flower in the toilet as a "little floating surprise". That one just killed me! There's not much new in 'ol Karl D's life but I do have a new little niece that was born just last Thursday. I will be making my annual NASCAR trip on Apr.18 and I'm sure we will be staying in a great Best Western or the like Big Grin Does your sister still work for Speed Sport News? I believe I saw the show you mentioned that she was in with you,but it was tough to tell if you were sisters.Hey,I almost forgot, congrats on the new series in Europe, you know I will always be a big fan! Hey Sam. I am so glad you are back. I missed you so much. So, how have you been doing? I went to Disney World a few weeks ago for spring break. Big suprise, huh? LOL. I stayed at All Star Movies. I was a good hotel but the beds weren't as comfortable as other Disney World beds are but I still liked the hotel. I kept looking for you hoping you were there taping another Disney episode. I kept thinking "Maybe I will see Samantha Brown today".
I went over to the Grand Floridian. It was so nice. I couldn't help but think "Sam was stanging in the same spot I am staing in right now". LOL.
Have you heard of something they do at Disney World called E-Ride night? It's a night they have a few times a week when Disney World resort guests are able to stay in the Magic Kingdom after hours. All of the most popular rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain and the Haunted Mansion are open and you can go on with hardly any wait.
I had this ice cream sundae at Beaches & Cram at the Beach Club that I think you would love. It was a Milky Way sundae. It is 3 sccops of vanilla ice cream, half a milky way, hot fudge, butterscotch, whipped cream and some bundt cake. It was so good. I ate more than half of it. I was starting to feel a little sick but I kept eating it. That's how good it is.
I hope to hear from you soon.

I spent the morning at Kittykind where I am a volunteer helping homeless cats. I've been doing this for four years and do you think even ONE cat wished me a happy birthday? no. nothing. although, there were plenty of little "cupcakes" waiting for me in their litter. The rest of my day involved a lot of errands in real depressing rainy weather (doesn't the sun know it's my birthday?) My night is looking much better. The fella in my life is cooking me Pork loin that he brined himself in a apple brandy cream sauce. For dessert, my favorite-homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream-yes, he has an ice cream maker folks is he a keeper or what? I also spy a lovely bottle of Pinot Noir on the table. So that said I will be answering all of today's posts tomorrow-I've got some celebrating to do Big Grin

We just thought we'd mention it to you since we discovered this forum. We enjoy your TV hosting. You seem personable and full of life. Keep up the great work and more power to you and to the show! We wish you nothing, but the best. Thank you for entertaining us and your legion of fans!

Hi Sam,
I hope you had a wonderful Birthday!Wink Cool Smile Big Grin I would love to send you a Birthday card, but I don't know where to send it. Do you have a P.O. Box? Sounds like your man is definitely a keeper!Wink Every girl should be so lucky! I haven't myself a man yet, but I keep looking. We have something in common. My favorite flavored ice cream, is mint-chocolate chip too! I hope you got lots of presents from your friends!Big Grin My Birthday is coming up soon. It's April 14th. It sounds like your having a wonderful time! Keep on having a wonderful time!
I think it's cool what you do, with helping homeless animals! If it were possible, I would adopt every one of those animals! So when I go into the local pet store, I go right up to the cats from the Humane Society and give them some attention. When you go to the animal shelter next time or Kittykind, give them extra attention for me, okay.Smile
Thanks for letting me, and everyone else, know that Great Hotels isn't ending & that you're just on Hiatas! Even though you're doing a new show for now, try to get some rest while you're at it.Wink Speaking of Great Hotels, have you had the chance to look at my list of Michigan Hotels & such? I know you're very busy, but I was just wondering. It's on the Great Hotels Forum, if you're wondering. I even put websites on my list for anyone to use.
Anyway, I really wish a very Happy Birthday, and my this next year be the best yet for you!Smile Cool Wink Big Grin Thanks for all you do Sam! Smile

Hey Sam,

It's Tristen - I haven't been on here in the longest time. How funny that I signed back in on your birthday! So, I send huge birthday wishes from me and my family. I've been trying to catch up a little here - it sounds like you're crossing the pond for another version of your show? I'll have to do a little more reading to see what it's all about, but congratulations! What a great opportunity!

I've been waiting to see the Nine Zero episode, but I seem to keep missing the show lately. The regular time it aired here seems to have changed, so I've signed myself up for email reminders. Thank you for the picture, by the way. My grandmother loved it - she sends her thanks.

Well, I'm off to bed. I hope you had a great birthday, and good luck in your new venture. I look forward to finding out more about that. Say hi to your mom for me (glad to hear you both survived Hawaii!), and hopefully we'll talk again soon.

Guess what Sam? We share the same birthday! Besides yours being exactly 2 months and 1 day after mine, that is. I checked the weather forecast for NYC and it's gonna be soggy until Tuesday. But maybe, just maybe, I can help. My former girlfriend rolls her eyes when I tell her I have "weather mojo"...but she can't explain why the snow goes away and the sun comes out whenever I visit her in the winter! Now the forecast for your neckathewoods looks grim, but I'll see what I can do. No promises though! *runs to check the batteries in his magic wand*

Please tell me you didn't eat the cupcakes that the kitties baked for you! Eek You can do better Sam, really you can. With more foreknowledge of your birthday I would have offered to bake a batch of my double decadence chocolate chip cookies! Their slogan is "Would you like a little cookie with your chocolate?" And they thought I'd lost my mind when I used over 2 bags of semisweet and milk chocolate. Wink I won't be surprised one iota if the answer to this question is "No", but do you have a P.O. Box or perhaps a production office address where things of this nature can be sent? The biggest reason I anticipate an answer to the contrary is because if you did, you might need a second apartment to hold the gifts, trinkets and flotsam that would find their way to you. Not to mention the c-a-n-d-y!

Aside from the weather it's good to hear you're enjoying your birthday! May the celebration continue into the weekend, may the gifts be abundant, and here's to the coming year being your most prosperous year ever. Smile

Happy Birthday Samantha!

We at the Alluvian feel greatly welcomed by your warm smile and great intellect.

We southernly welcome you to The magnificant Hotel in the delta.

We would love to have your companies address to send a brief history package as well as before and after pics of the hotel if it is alright with your producers.
THis would be a very inexpensive trip for your next show.

We have alot of history here in Greenwood, Ms
as for as Blues, Barbeque, Cotton, Big Grin

This hotel was a great inspiration for all of us here in Mississippi we had had many people from all over to come to just see this marvelous hotel.

This was not by accident but by grace that the Viking Range Corporation chose to do this project
To learn more about us just find a Architectural Digest and began to read more about us.

Thanks, the alluvain team
Your Reply is greatly appreciated
Please let your producers know about the package and feel free to have them call me i don't mind just anybody @ 1-662-458-9142 ask for Edgar, FDC

Hello Samantha
I am a high school teacher in Rhode Island. I am currently teaching a few travel classes. One of the classes that I teach is called Lodging Management. We spend every Friday watching your show. The class loves you, they think your great. The class wanted to know if you have ever thought about doing a show in Rhode Island? Keep up the good work, we look forward to seeing your shows.

Good Morning Sam and All,

Sorry to have missed out on a more timely wish for nothing but the best for your birthday Sam. Sounds like your man knows how to treat a lady. A word of advice, ALWAYS keep a guy who knows how to cook well or for that matter - just cooks period.

The things I've learned from this new thread are just amazing. To the many reasons why I like you, one can now add the fact that you are a fan of Alton Brown's Good Eats and also Colin Firth. Both are favorites of mine. I appreciate the originality, humor, and intelligence with which Good Eats is presented. Not just you're typical cooking show. And what's NOT to like about Colin Firth? Do you have a favorite among his film appearances? Don't laugh, but I loved him as the father in 'What a Girl Wants'.

Let me take this opportunity to wish you and all my fellow Sam fans a Happy Easter and Happy Spring. Here in California my walks are enhanced by the air fragrant with smell of lilacs and daphne in all their resplendant glory. The first bloom of the roses are always the most spectacular and particularly pretty juxtaposed against the bright yellow and orange of the daffodils and jonquils. On days such as these, I could walk forever.

I doubt I will have the chance to post again. Mod Kelly said you would be here for the week and tonight we see James Galway at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts in Davis. Tomorrow finds us in Berkeley for a performance by Chanticleer, a LONGTIME favorite of ours. Not so great a journey as our Miss Ashley's Hawaii, but ones that suit me just fine.

One last favor before going. I don't know if it's the possibility of your being away from us or just that if Capt Tuttle and Mother O can break down and ask for a photo, the path is clear for we lesser folk. As time permits you, I would love to add a photo of your sunny face to the mantle with my family. I feel like you're a member. I can be reached at: carolwh@infostations.com.

Take Care Everyone,
Carol

P.S. You're hot wings recipes will be tried sandiegan. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sam,
How was your birthday? I bet it was wonderful!Big Grin Sorry about the weather being so soggy! It's sunny here in Michigan right now, but it's supposed to get rainy and colder.Frown Oh well, it's Spring. Did you get a Happy Birthday call from your parents? I hope you are doing well, and that your cat Fiona is doing well(& has fully forgiven you by now). My cat seems to have taken over my bed. It's not mine anymore, it's hers. Happy April Fool's Day! Have a great time traveling, and thanks for talking to all of us!Smile Big Grin

Samantha,
I'm shocked as I am reading your fans write that nobody really mentions the best thing about Great Hotels and that is you! You are the show. Sure it's nice to see beautiful places to stay but it's your charm and sense-of-humor that keeps me tuned in. You're quirky and not afraid to be a little goofy on TV. What did you do before this show and how did this job come about? TV has become boring and you can catch the same show on several channels but you are different. Is the show going away? I hope not. Thanks for the great work you do and please don't change. I'm shocked you have not landed on a major network.

Actually, first to Samantha: TYPO ALERT, alas: I now see the wondrous word "mellifluous" is missing its first U way up on the other late night's Elizabethan offering. And I wanted it to be perfect for you, too.

And now Carol: (while we wait for Samantha to recover from last night), please don't leave for the weekend - you and Ashley both gone now? - before reading this: "Lesser folk", indeed. I think Mother O and I naturally assumed you, as a resident star here, already had Samantha's photo beaming down at you from your (no doubt) impeccably tasteful mantel. As it is, then I'm glad we've emboldened you to ask as well. [But as M.O. pointed out to me, we still may never REALLY know if it's Sam, or the hacking and wheezing Carmine/Tibor, who has signed them Razz. I can just mentally see him now, with Edward G Robinson/Police Chief Wiggum voice saying, "Here y'ar, schweethart," as he rips off another delicate Samanthan autograph for you. My own scientific research will be to look for cigar ashes in the envelope, or sniff for the tell-tale whiff of old gym socks. Then we'll know she has indeed hired Tibor while she dallies in posh Belgian chocolate shops outside instead Wink.]

And very nice images you draw of your morning walks - I mentally see you now much like the Vanessa Redgrave character opening the film version of Howard's End, silent Edwardian lady amiably rustling through the garden paths... We have a cool, windy, drippy early spring day here, and I walked in to visit some used bookstore and library friends at UVa earlier this afternoon: old W.W. Abbot who used to run the G. Washington Papers out clipping ivy on his front garden wall, lawns greening up, daffoldils all out now, and many ornamental bushes like pink crab apples, white pears, and yellow forsythias in bloom. The native dogwoods and redbuds will follow later but aren't ready yet. Things are just starting here... and Mother O may still be shovelling snow.

But I digress, as always - enjoy your most aesthetic weekend, and if you really want, I may well e-send you the first chapter or two of this novel thing for you to sample. We'll think about it, anyway. And now back to Samantha's world, where attention rightfully belongs. (I count this as one half of a post, Sam, but I didn't want to let Carol slip away without acknowledgement).

To my amazement Sam isn't back on yet. However, with Sam being so busy, and just having celebrated her birthday, she deserves some rest! Wink
To Captuttle: I like how you speak so eloquently!Smile I have some English ancestory blood in me, so now and then when I read a poem I have to use an English accent. I'm a hopeless romantic, so I have often dreamed of being somewhere in England's hillside, and being rescued by a knight on a white horse. Literature has always been one of my favorite subjects! History too! Come visit Michigan sometime! Between mid-August through the end of September, is Michigan's annual Rennaissance Fair. It only happens on the weekends, but everything is made to look like you're in a faraway land, during the Rennaissance era. It's in Flint, Michigan. I went for the first time last year, and had a magical time! This invitation goes for everyone else as well!Smile
To Sam: I hope you have fully recovered from your Birthday celebration, and I hope you had a marvelous time!Big Grin Say hi to your cat Fiona, for me.Smile How was your April Fool's Day? No pranks pulled on me this year (thankfully).Wink Well I believe it is time for me to say goodbye for now. Adue, to you & you & you(from The Sound Of Music).

my computer right now is PAINFULLY slow. It took three minutes just to get to the reply page. So bare with me if I don't get to reply to everyone-at this slow rate that could take me three hours. I'll be on all weekend as well.

these are our choices so far-
new york -best in fall-St. Regis and the library
things to do Where do I start?

disneyland/san diego-you've already gone to Disney World for your honeymoon I say try something new!
san francisco-my favorite city (besides the big apple) a helplessly romantic destination. Many hotels to choose from. Must do's-walk and walk and walk spending time in all of San frans wonderfully diverse neighborhoods , have a drink at the Top of the Mark.

hawaii-well this is the obvious romantic choice. It's such a romantic destination it's one of the few places I get terribly lonely because it is truly meant to be experienced with someone else. This last time I brought my mom...not quite what I had in mind but certainly better than being by myself. Hawaii is a much bigger commitment time-wise and financially. If you do decide I'd be happy to give you a great itinerary.

I had a wonderful afternoon with you and your mom at tea which by the way this weekend I will be having tea at The Plaza-just mak'in the rounds. No problem on the picture-I'll send my pic requests at the beginning of the week. I didn't know you lived in New Zealand? I can't believe we shared a whole pot of tea and that didn't come up. Basically, the only reason why I can't shout from the highest roof top the "european series" is because the i's are not dotted and the t's not crossed. As soon as Travel Channel agrees to my requested $1,000,000 per episode we'll start shooting Wink.

please tell your mom I said Hello!

As I sit in my lab, listening to my patients snore, snort and ..do..other things, I'm given to recalling all the times I watched your show and all of the wonderful places you allowed me to tag along with you. You have an extraordinary presence on the screen that compels me to watch every show. I'm not a fan of television due to the low brow approach to entertainment these days, but you clearly have the formula for success.

Please keep up the good work!! When I heard that there was a possibility that you weren't going to continue with Great Hotels, I was very dismayed. I hear, however, that you will continue with the Travel Channel but under a new format. I hope this is true.

Here in fly over country, wishing you a very happy birthday and continued success.

wow, the Big M on Westcott I was definately a regular there. I really great night would be a trip to Wegmans. It was opened 24 hours so we would go around 1 am to shop and "snack" on the bulk food- peanut m&m's, skittles, chocolate covered raisons. Just recently I went to a Wegmans in Pennsylvania and thought as I stood before all the bulk candy "wow, i can afford all of it" -I've come a long way baby.

Is the Eggplant diner still around?

Hello again!

Had the same sort of trouble from my home computer today. Now I'm at work (yeah for me) and it seems fine.

Saw Phantom of the Opera last night. First time! although I've listened to the music forever. I think it rates as my second favorite soundtrack (behind Lion King of course!) The show was incredible! Where these people get their voices is beyond me. Although I do recall that you have a wonderful singing voice, my shower singing sends even my cats to the basement!

I would agree about the spring in your step in the New England episodes...I'm ready to go back.

We saw our first stray kitten today.... 4 weeks old, cute as can be, screaming for food. Groundhog Day has NOTHIN' on the cat population telling us when spring has sprung!

My time in New Zealand was amazing! 18 months when I was 21-22 years old. Was an exchange for school. Absolutely the best time of my life. I have been encouraging young Ashley to do something like that when she gets to college (she is looking to be a engineer! Smart Cookie!)

So if you ever make it there, say Samantha Brown's Adventures Down Under, I can easily be talked into going as a consultant!!! Can't recommend any swanky hotels though, we backpacked as cheap college kids and paid 5 bucks american for hostels!

Gotta tend to some patients...I'll talk with you soon!

Kel
