well I'm glad you finally got ahold of me. Nine-Zero/Wheatleigh is one of my favorite episodes. The Wheatleigh is just exquisite and I was thrilled to be in my neck of the woods for the fall. Check out Chatham Bars Inn (Cape Cod) and The Wauwinet in Nantucket. I think there's an extra spring in my step in these episodes. I'm a New England girl!

Sorry that my last post was so long! I just couldn't wait to talk to you! Your mom sounds like funny lady. Smile Moms everywhere tend to think about others more than themselves. I'm glad to hear she had a wonderful time. Smile Even though Great Hotels will be ending, do you think you'll ever get the chance to go back up to Mackinac Island? It's finally warming up a bit here in MI. I hope you have a wonderful time traveling, but remember to get some rest! Wink Cool I think it's so cool that your interested in Shakespeare! I like it too, & when I read one of his stories, it tends to bring the English accent out in me. It's lots of fun! I hope your family is doing well, and your having fun traveling! If you do visit Europe, visit the mansion that was on the Sound Of Music. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us! Smile Cool Wink Big Grin Adue, until next time. Cool

Hi Samantha

I love your show I am totally addicted to watching it. Saturday nights when I go out with my friends we always end up closing the in which we went to that night. Then we head back to one of friends house and we continue to party. (which is my favorite part of the night),due to the fact that everyone is bombed off our rears. Almost everytime we end up staying up all night long. I dont let anyone go to sleep until we watch your 2 hours of Great Hotels which starts at 9:00a.m. where im at in the Detroit area of Michigan. By doing that I have got all my friends hooked on your show. This has been going on for quite a while now with my friends and I. We work hard during the week party hard on the weekends and slip into Coma's after watching your shows every Sunday morning. I constanly get teased by all my friends about you. They are all convinced that you would be the perfect girl for me. Ive got to admit I dont disagree Big Grin well anyways keep up the good work and good luck with your career and can I please get an autographed pick of you. Thanks

I know I have asked this before, and maybe your picture is on it's way, but just in case I'll ask again. May I have an autograph picture of you? My email is: dramaqueen102@yahoo.com. My name is Tiffany. I'm a hopeless romantic, so it's funny when you suggest places for people to smooch! Smile Are you tired from traveling yet, or are you still having fun? Confused Smile

Hey Sam! Are you still on? Could some of the new eps of Great Hotels include the Moderate or Deluxe Resorts at Walt Disney World in Florida?
If not, could you give us some indication of where these last eps were shot?
Always a fan! Wink

Hi Samantha,

My daughter, Meg, and I have a question. She's 6 now, and I believe she was 5 when she asked you why you like to see all the space in the bathrooms. She still remembers that you told her this was because your bathroom at home was so small that things kept falling in the toilet.

She also likes the parts in the show when you eat chocolate and roll your eyes.

We recently saw a show in which you told people your hometown was in New Hampshire, I believe. We were wondering where in NH that was.

Thanks,

Meg and her Dad

Thanks so much for the favorite spa reply, I hope to hit the Oriental spa in Miami real soon--although I hear J. Lo is there a lot so she may have the whole place booked--wait, I am sure she probably gets that private room suite treatment. Is it worth the $$$$?
Question-I had put in for a picture request on another thread, and I'm not sure if you go back to those older requests so I'm hoping you can send a fabulous auto-photo to me, kmg001us@yahoo.com? Also, regarding Emmy, Escada and Tahari are having Sample sales this week down on 18th! Check it out, you can be the next Charlize Theron...

Great Hotels will in no way end -we are just looking at other things for now to stretch our potential. Everyone at the Travel Channel loves the show and it's been very well received by all of you...so...I've lived in NYC for 12 years and fiona is my only cat-she's just starting to forgive me for being away so long. I absolutely did have the famous fudge! Very good.

WOW! you know more than I do! We (Travel Channel, PineRidge and myself) have all agreed to put Great Hotels on hiatus.

(I feel like a spokesperson for one of those bands that are taking a break to pursue individual projects but insist that they are not breaking up. THE DIFFERENCE is that "my band" is staying together and we may be recording a very different album.) more on that later....

New shows after Hawaii will be Aspen Colorado-be sure to watch this one for my death defying jump on a snowboard and beautiful Santa Fe.

The Halekulani is a beauty and it was nice to be back. You tried the cucumber recipe? That's great! I forgot about that and will try to make it myself since I have a mandeline (cutter) Once we know the format for the show I will definately be asking you guys for some recommendations. Big Grin

The production company does all the research on a particular hotel and then makes a pitch. Travel Channel has the ultimate decision power.

I wish we could have done Macinaw Island this season. Also, we had a lot of requests to do the Atlantis. That place looks like a blast.

Now I'll be the ultimate tour guide. I agree there's a lot to see and marvel at in the US and I believe the Travel Channel has some great new hosted shows that will highlight that. I however have received another calling...keeping my figure is darn hard. I work out just about everyday (i'm avoiding my gym time as we speak) my weakness is chocolate, i have to have it everynight and I pay dearly for that. a pic is no problem.

Hotel Del Coronado is the rare "Sam with brown hair" episode as well. Last year as we were beginning season three I wanted to try something different and possibly get back to my normal haircolor. Well, no one liked it. My producers called me and said "umm,...what's up with your hair?" So I'm back to being blond which I agree looks better than the brown.

Well Aloha!

I can't believe you are going to Hawaii tomorrow. What Islands are you visiting? and where are you staying? Have a fantastic time-try not to sleep tonight so you'll be tired on the plane-it's a long flight. Unfortunately one can't buy tickets for our daytime emmys. All the cable awards are given during the Technical Emmy's which is an untelevised event held separately from the televised Emmy's. But thanks for your support. The Beach Week gang (Michelle, Shana, Colin and myself) had an absolute blast. It was so nice to actually have friends on camera. Well have a great time in Paradise. We'll want to hear all about it when you come back. ALOHA!

Welcome back sam. Great to hear that you're still alive and kickin. I'd spend my free time sleeping if I had to do what you do- Hawaii, south beach, NYC..I dont know how you keep yourself goin on that schedule! I've really been enjoying beach week. Its fun to see you and all of the other TC hosts a little more laid back and playful then normal. It looks like you were having fun which is great, and there aren't many other places that have the energy and activites of South Beach. I was down there myself about a week ago (my friend was at the city club hotel- if you're ever up for something new in South Beach give it a try, the rooms are THE coolest I've ever seen. Now I finally remembered one of my questions that I wanted to ask on your visit. Do (or did) you tell the hotel who you were when you called for reservations or did you guys come in unnanounced to view the hotels by surprise? Also, I was curious about one of the hotels you did- The library in NYC. On my most recent trips I've been staying at the Sherry-Netherland, Peninsula, and the Ritz Centeral park, but I'd really like something a little more affordable (if that exists in the big apple). Also, what's your favorite NYC hotel? Okay, I must calm myself- one more question and then I'll let you rest- when you were at the St. Regis, were the special touches by the butler really done by him on his own merit or did you order them or how did that work? Alrighty sam, have a great evening (dont eat too many more chicken wings, they dont sit well after a while) and I'll e-post back later.

Sam

We have all missed you since your last visit! Well, first of all, how are you? I am finally getting to talk to you. I have had school work to do for the past two days. I am so glad I have free time now! I hope all of your travels were fabulous. I know they must have, the new shows are so good. I wish I could have gone on some of the ones I saw. Big Grin The only bad thing is that the show now only comes on in the morning and at 3:00 and I don't get home from school until 3:30. Frown I am going to start watching them on Sunday, but I wish I could watch them all throughout the week. I'm sorry about that! I hope your mom and Fiona are doing fine. From reading another post, it seems like your mom had a great time during Beach Week filming. I almost gasped when someone said they thought Great Hotels was ending. I knew that it just couldn't be true, but I knew you would be on other shows, so it wasn't so bad, but now that you said that it isn't over plus you have new things in the works, that's even better! Well, I hope you have a wonderful evening and I will talk to you again maybe tomorrow.

Hey Sam...

If our opinions out here in viewer-ville carry any weight, I'd like to toss my two cents in.

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOOOVVEEE to see you do shows from Australia. A close second would be Italy. I would relish being able to take an armchair tour of Italy from your unique persective....

That's this humble viewer's suggestion...

do you get the chance to suggest hotels you'd like to stay at or does just the production company come up with the ideas to pitch?

So you think it's just a hiatus from great hotels and that you'll be back doing more in the future?

Please definitely think about the following as the first ones in the pipe when you get back... grand hotel-mackinac, atlantis-bahamas, meridian in new york, drake in chicago, kalahari resort in wisconsin dells.. and some in the vancouver area.

definitely let us know when you can talk about the new show- we can't wait.

since you are so well traveled i would love your opinion. me and my husband our celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary this year and we are going to take a trip- the first trip since our honeymoon in walt disney world. and probably will be the only trip we take for probably 5 more years due to some unfortunate stuff coming up.

so we want this to be the best vacation ever- full of lots of touristy fun stuff to do. yes its anniversary but we want activities and fun.

these are our choices so far-
new york
disneyland/san diego
san francisco
hawaii

i was wondering what you would consider the not to miss stuff in each place.. and where are good places to stay. and which of the 4 destinations would be the best to choose for the ultimate vacation.

thanks

Hi Sam, thanks for writing me!Big Grin Even though it was a somber moment, showing the WTC site was a touching moment! I was in NYC in 1997, & went to the top of the WTC, at night! I had a blast! Smile Showing the site really touched me!
I love animals, and chocolate too! Thanks again for taking the time to write to your fans! Smile I know it must be time consuming for you, so thank you for taking time to write us!

How are you!!! Glad to see you back on the boards. I flew in from California last night (well, on a red eye) and am now back at work, paying for taking a weekend off. Once spring hits, our furry friends tend to get themselves in a lot of trouble! California was beautiful! Green, sunny! Spent time at the beach and brought home a sun-burn!

Sam, thank you so much for taking the time to meet Mom and I in January. Even with the Waldorf, The Lion King, and grand tours of NYC, that afternoon with you was the highlight of the trip. I find myself chuckling when I see you on TV...thinking "hey, I know her!". With mom, on the other hand, we've created a monster! She has watched every show since that day and calls me daily to tell me where "our friend" was today! What a wonderful memory for both of us!

Mom did figure out the painting at the St. Regis pretty quickly, by the way. Wink

So, have you read the Jacksonville article? Did you guys mean to have that info leaked yet? At any rate, I'm anxious to see you in a slightly different role and what better friend to see Europe with than you? I've never been...having lived in New Zealand, I seem to migrate back to the South Pacific anytime I have the means and money.

One favor before I sign off for now...Could I get a picture for mom? Her birthday is coming up and I know she'd love it.

Ashley...have a great time in Hawaii. Carol...I'll email you later
Mother O...thanks for your NYC info, your suggestions were perfect
Tuttle... as always, a pleasure to read your prose
dejardins...any bets on our boys of summer?
anyone I've left out...???
all the newer forum members...welcome!!! Don't be afraid to get to know us!

Hope your mom is doing well. We're doing ok here.

Thanks again Sam...I'll look forward to chatting this week.!!!!

Aloha Sam! I am thrilled I was able to hear from you before I left. I am leaving on an evening flight tomorrow to California and will already have been up since 5:30AM for school, so I am almost guaranteed to get some sleep time on the plane. We arrive around 1:30AM California time and will then be heading off to Hawaii at around 7AM. I think I am in need of a few things to keep me occupied on the flights- a good book perhaps. I will be staying on Oahu at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Rainbow Towers for the first 6 days and on Maui at the Hyatt Regency for the last 6 days. I wish I could talk with you all about it and hear any advice you have to offer, but I do realize you have quite a few posts to respond to. However, I will be sure to post somewhere on the message boards upon my return about the trip and hopefully you will come across it during your secret visits to the forums.
It’s such a shame the Daytime Emmy’s are not offering tickets. I read on several websites that tickets to this event would be made available for the public, but clearly that is not the case. I’ll have to wait until another event, actually allowing the public to attend, so I can wave a quick hello to you. Smile
A last note and I will conclude this post- My Father is a major Air Traffic Control Manager and was actually the one to close down all of the Northeastern airports on September 11th. He would like to make it known to yourself and the crew that you can contact him if you have any problems as far as delays or if you have any questions in general about flights and such. You can just write to my e-mail given below and I will provide you with phone numbers there if you and your crew become interested.
I will hopefully be checking in tomorrow afternoon before I leave for my own personal Beach Week, but if I don’t hear from you... I am looking forward until the next time we speak (which hopefully won’t be too distant)! Take care of yourself and say “hello” to your Mom for me. Aloha!
Ashley
GoofyAsh@mousehut.com
Carol- I e-mailed you from a different account and hopefully you received it. If not, I will be creating a new account when I return from my trip. Speak with you then!!
Kelly- Glad you stopped in on the boards! It wouldn't have been an official "get-together" if you had not shown up.
Capt T. and Mother O.- I hope to hear from you both really soon and it is (as usual) lovely to read your posts.
